Good Audio Bandwidth. Its the IP Camera that Limits the Audio
I installed and tested the USA Sales microphone onto a Sunba 405 PTZ camera and along the way also tried 2 other microphones because I was unhappy with the quality of the audio and I thought the microphone was to blame so I tried different ones. We use the microphones is to listen to backyard sounds from the birds and other wildlife through several backyard cameras all managed through a Network Video Recorder and displayed on a TV. We can select any camera and hear the audio through the TV. We were unhappy with the quality of the audio provided by the microphone but soon found it was not the problem. After much testing, we discovered the IP camera was the issue, greatly limiting the audio bandwidth and the external microphones, all 3 of them were decent performers with the USA Sales being the 2nd best of the three (MicroSeven, USA Sales, and Tonton). Read on for our test results. The Good:-- EASY INSTALL: The Sunba 405 camera came audio-ready with an audio RCA connector and a power connector on a dongle to attach to the microphone. Just "plug and play". Also, the body of the microphone has a mounting bracket with a hole to attach to a surface.-- NICE IT INCLUDED RCA ADAPTER: The kit came with an RCA male to male adapter barrel which was great as that was necessary to connect the mic to the Sunba camera.-- SOUND SENSITIVE: The mic picked up quiet high-frequency sounds. For example, I have ultrasonic mole repellers stakes in the ground that give off a high-frequency chirp every 60 seconds. The chirp is very quiet to the naked ear and the mic pics those up easily.-- EASY TO HEAR NATURES SOUNDS: I could hear doves, birds chirping, hummingbirds squawking at other hummingbirds and owls at night-- MISTAKENLY BLAMED THE MIC FOR POOR FIDELITY: I measured the audio bandwidth of the camera-external mic system and after much testing using special audio analysis software and a special test microphone came to the conclusion that the IP camera was causing the poor audio fidelity, NOT THE MICROPHONE! The camera cut off audio bandwidth at about 4KHz while the microphone bandwidth extends well past 12 Mhz. See the attached plot showing the narrow camera bandwidth and the much larger microphone bandwidth. The IP camera digitizes the analog audio from the microphone and this particular Sunba camera uses a low sampling rate resulting in very poor fidelity when you listen to the audio. The bandwidth through the camera provides an audio quality more like an old dial-up analog princess phone. The microphone performance by itself, while by no means Hi-Fidelity is very functional and provides plenty of reasonable bandwidth to 12KHz and beyond to get good quality audio....... IP Cameras don't really discuss their audio quality as they do low sampling resulting in poor audio as I discovered with the Sunba IP camera.-- THE 2nd BEST OF THREE MICS: I tried 3 different mics during my adventure to improve the IP camera's audio and while all were also reasonable performers, the USA Sales had the 2nd best bandwidth over the audio range.-- POWER "Y". The USA Sales has a nice convenient feature providing a power "Y" cable so that you can tap into the camera's 12V power and don't need a separate power converter. Conclusion: The USA Sales microphone performs well on its own with bandwidth out to 20 KHz and very reasonable levels out to 12 KHz. If you feel your audio is not up to par, look at the IP camera first as the likely limitation.

Great mic for outdoor security system or even listening to outdoor sound.
The media could not be loaded. We all know that wen your have security cameras is nice to record audio as well. If you dont have a camera with built in mic, enter the idea to add on an outdoor microphone. This one is a great choice and at this price well worth it. Works well with 12v and properly shielded audio lines. Allows your security system to record audio outdoors (assuming your system has an audio input).High sensitivity and housing mounts directly to a surface.Adjustable gain, surface mount, 12v connections both in and out (for splitting a single 12v to power this and camera).Over all good product, works well.Worth buying, definitely if you need an outdoor mic for your security system. We review it all.Reviews(at)exchangeentertainment(dot)com

Sound is OK but I havent messed with the gain
Get AC pre filter (Open cell foam) and wrap this thing in it twice before mounting. Thats the same material wind socks for microphones are made of. It cuts out the wind really well. But I didn't use a shielded AV wire as you should which is probably why my sound isnt the best running next to the AC wire. All AC will interfere with audio/video signals. Space blankets work as shielding material too. If you use RCA wires that are shielded and the wind sock this is a pretty good mic for the money. I am using the power pass through which possibly could create noise and as soon as I can I wont use it. Just some tips cause for 11$ this is a decent little mic. I'll mess with the gain when its off my DVR and onto my Geovision video server and I dont have to backup clips to hear sound like on my DVR. Hope this helps someone.

Acceptable, but not great
Easy to install and use. It was simple plug-and-play. The audio quality leaves a lot to be desired. Still, better than no audio.

Works great with my Foscam outdoor camera.
I Purchased this for use with an outdoor Foscam security camera that doesn’t have a built-in microphone. I installed the microphone just under the eve of my garden house, near the camera. It seems to have a built-in AGC so even faint sounds can be heard but louder noises do not overpower or distort the audio. It has a DC power pass-through included so it does not require a separate power source from the camera. That made for a very easy install. — Several years ago I Purchased a similar microphone at three times the price and this one works just as well.
