Newbery Honor Book New York Times Bestseller This impassioned, uplifting, and virtuosic tour de force from a treasured storyteller follows three children, in three different times and places, whose lives mysteriously intersect. Lost and alone in a forbidden forest, Otto meets three mysterious sisters and suddenly finds himself entwined in a puzzling quest involving a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica. Decades later, Friedrich in Germany, Mike in Pennsylvania, and Ivy in California each, in turn, become interwoven when the very same harmonica lands in their lives. All the children face daunting challenges: rescuing a father, protecting a brother, holding a family together. And ultimately, pulled by the invisible thread of destiny, their suspenseful solo stories converge in an orchestral crescendo. Richly imagined and masterfully crafted, Echo pushes the boundaries of genre, form, and storytelling innovation to create a wholly original novel that will resound in your heart long after the last note has been struck. Review: freaking incredible - I absolutely hate reading. We read this book over the course of about maybe four months at school, and at first glance, I thought I would hate it. It is super long, which I immediately disliked, and the first three parts connected but I didn't know how it would just blow up in the end. Each part is a completely different storyline, which I at first thought was stupid until part 4. Everything connected - and you really have to think about everything which I love. The ending was the absolute BEST ending I've ever read. ever. EVERYTHING made sense. I had to use my brain, and everything was a puzzle piece. I've never been a fan of magic and fantasy books - but this book had enough where it wasn't to much or not enough. It's a little bit hard to get into, but in the end it just goes together so beautifully. 100/10. Review: A True Masterpiece - Christopher Paul Curtis (author) states on the back jacket of this book, "This is a beautifully crafted story...it has mystery, adventure, and a powerful sense of hope and heart. A masterpiece." No one can review this book any better than that! I am not one who reads all kinds of things, especially not fantasy. Nor do I choose books just by "top" reviewers. Also, I had just finished a story that moved me beyond anything I had ever read before. So, I was determined to try this thinking that I would be safe from all of that...WRONG. This story is very moving, very real-to-life with fantasy swirling all around you. For those that reviewed it as being confusing...give it another shot because you will figure it all out...just keep reading. That's what great challenging books do...they make you embrace every fiber of your being. This is now one of my favorite books.

Uplifting!
With the negativity and darkness that we seem to be bombarded with anymore on a daily basis this excellent novel brings with it a prescription to alleviate those aforementioned symptoms. Let me start by saying that if you have the opportunity please get the audiobook version due to the musical theme throughout that just embellishes the storyline. You feel connected to the characters and become engrossed in their thoughts and feelings along with their emotional highs and lows. Although some may be apprehensive especially younger readers about the length of this book, it is an extremely compelling read that consists of separate stories that eventually are connected by a single and unique instrument. Highly recommend especially with the audio version.

My 11 year old loves this book! (She said this one was easier to follow than Esperanza Rising).
My now 6th grader loves this book. She read Esperanza Rising in 5th grade, for school, and talked non-stop about how much she enjoyed that book, so I bought Echo for one of her summer reading books. It’s a winner! bought Echo because I thought she may like it since it’s written by the same author, but I noticed it’s a well liked book as it is. She told me I would like it as well, so I’m next. Maybe I’ll add to this review when I’m done, but I know for sure that one 11 year old girl loves it! By the way, Esperanza Rising is a wonderful book that I highly recommend for young people, especially during these challenging times with the virus and changing economy (for some) etc.

My 9 YO Grandson and I Both Loved This Book
I read this book aloud from China to my 6 and 9 yo grandsons in the Philippines. When I finished it, the nine year old said, “Mema, I loved EVERY WORD of that story!” I had to agree with him. It’s a remarkable book made up of several equally enchanting plot lines that interweave into one beautiful tale. The resolution was satisfying and rich. There were none of the frustrating”But what about”s that plague some books with multiple threads. At no point did I wish away part of the book or skim or get bored. I was a literature major. I read several books a week. This was one of the best books I’ve ever read- and I chose it to read to my grandkids! Ha! I both loved and hated to see this book end.

Magical and compelling
This is an exquisitely told story filled with warmth and human beauty, even when exploring the darker aspects of life. Pam Muñoz Ryan weaves fairytale with historical fiction and magical realism with an expert hand and a heart big enough to hold us all. No matter if a character is shining or suffering, she is able to reveal the humanity inside each one, showing compassion for those who struggle and championing those who are working for the common good. I absolutely loved the book and won't reveal the plot here - it's just so good that you need to read it and discover it piece by piece for yourself. For me, personally, it touched on three pieces of history that are very important to my family and to me - I felt like I was part of the silken thread that connects us all, just like the characters in the book.

She was very pleased with it
This was a gift for my girlfriend. She was very pleased with it; this book has excellent reviews on Goodreads, one of the best new books. I don't usually review anything I buy from Amazon, but this book deserves more than just 1 review with 4 stars.
