Retrieval System Anchor Lock

I bought this for my jon boat. I fish small lakes and use a grappling hook type of anchor that is actually made for kayaks. I wouldn't use something like this on a bigger boat but it is quite strong. It does need to mount to something solid though. I think attaching it to a kayak without a strong backing plate would be asking for trouble. The mounting hardware that comes with it is not suitable at all. Just four stainless self-tapping screws so plan on a trip to the hardware store. I'm happy with how it functions and the locking button is a nice touch. Now for the bad news... I had read in the question/answer section of this product's Amazon page that other owners claimed that it works with Scotty mount products. Well, it kind of does but not really. The hole on the Anchor Lock mount is just a little too small for a Scotty rod holder to fit. However, the Anchor Lock device will easily fit into other Scotty mount bases. I think if I made the Anchor Lock mount hole a little bigger with a round file then the Scotty mount products would fit right in but I haven't tried that yet. I like the Scotty products and have about half a dozen of the mount bases mounted in various locations around my jon boat so I was hoping that this would be compatible but its not really compatible without some modification. Other than that its a good solution for having my little anchor ready for deployment or retrieval. Also, I think a 3/8" anchor line would be just a little too big. 1/4" or even 5/16" no problem.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and features of this anchor lock. It can be mounted in a variety of positions and has a handy locking feature (notice the red button). It is compatible with some other mount systems and seems durable - though time will tell.I mounted this on a custom boom that I made for my canoe where there is a electric trolling motor on one side and this anchor lock on the other side.I would purchase this again if needed and highly recommend it.

I'm giving this item five stars because it appears to be well constructed, priced fairly, and a well thought out concept, However, it was received defective as I wasn't able to separate the base from the anchor lock. It was frozen, I tried everything but I couldn't separate them. I understand that things happen so I not blaming the manufacture. I am returning the anchor lock and Amazon is sending a replacement.

Vert sturdy construction and good locking mechanism even for a heavier anchor. The quick on and off feature is a step above the twist and turn out style of other mounting systems.

Works well. I can raise and lower the anchor from my boat seat.

removable support is convenient but the material is fragile

Not for heavy anchor. It broke on the first day. I was able to fix it and I am still using it. Must release the re from the jaws before you throw the ancho away.
