Does there have to be a light?

You can turn off the color lights. But the function light especially the green is very bright if you are sensitive to light when you sleep this will be bothersum. I used black electrical tape to round the bottom of the lid to block out most the green light. It will do rather than returning to buy a more expensive item.

However, mine is still running after 8 hours. It auto shuts off when water is almost gone. Push twice to red or continuous mode and it runs continually for 3 hours then auto shuts off. I started mine at 1am in green intermittent mode and it’s 8:45 and still running. But no complaints here!

You can just use water, if you want to use it as a humidifier. This does not include the essential oils; you will have to buy those seperatly. It is worth buying the oils though.
