Works great for a 10' kayak
I've been using this for just short of a year and it has yet to fail me. I've used it in lakes and moderate-speed rivers with my 10' kayak. Every single time I have dropped it in, it has held fast on both rock/gravel as well as silt. I'm not sure how strong the rope is, but I've never been afraid of losing the anchor. You could always replace it with some heavier-duty accessory cord or something if you are concerned. There is a small styrofoam float on the end, so you could also use it to mark a specific location in a lake, or just to prevent you from accidentally losing the anchor overboard.

perfect for kayaks
The anchor is perfect for a kayak or canoe. It is easy enough to carry in any small storage space. The clip on the end makes it easy to attach and the anchor works well at holding the bottom.

Anchor me down
Purchased the Advanced Elements anchor after drifting around while trying to fish from my kayak. Wasn't sure how effective it would be because of the light weight and size.Tried it last weekend on a lake in a mild breeze and it worked perfectly. Tried it again the next day in a small river with moderate current and it worked well with a slight drag until it dug in. Anchor is sturdy, locks open or closed. Stores well in mesh bag when collapsed. Rope with carbiner and float is a plus. Make sure the anchor is tied tight before you use it. Would recommend.

Needs a little extra engineering
It would be a great little anchor, with plenty of line, a mesh bag, a float and a carabiner, but I had to dock it two stars, because the pin holding the anchor to the metal loop at the top comes out way too easily. I knew this when I bought it, so I wasn't disappointed with the purchase. I was able to use a small wire, like something one might hang pictures with, to tie it firmly in place. After that, it was fine. I just couldn't give more stars to something with such a fundamental flaw, though. Otherwise, it's a five-star product.

Good pruduct, great price
Good pruduct, great price. Just do some inspection and make some adjustments. Had to remove ring and tie rope, ring had bad threads. No problem bc was going to do that anyway. Also had to pound some of the connecting posts so moving arms wouldn't fall off. Wasn't much over to keep parts together.

Glue the pin as other suggest
I purchased this intending to use with my kayaks but just recently purchased a boat and ended up using it there instead. Used this past weekend to anchor my 18' boat in a cove while swimming off the back. This was in a no wake zone and held the boat fine for about an hour while we swam. I decided to leave it on the boat as it is easier to handle than the larger danforth for swimming. I wanted to add that as others suggested I glued the pin with gorilla glue to keep it from coming out.**Update 09/28/16**I wanted to update this review as after spending more time on the boat I began to find that the larger danforth is preferred for my 18' bow rider. I will likely relegate this one back to the kayaks.

VERY well-designed Anchor
Used this anchor new out of the box this past weekend. Very well-designed anchor: compact, locks open for use, locks closed for storage and not punching holes / scratching the interior of my new canoe. Worked very well in shallow muck / weed bottomed lake, which surprised me given the anchor is not that heavy. All in the design I guess... Held canoe in place when a monster Northern Pike broadsided the small 25 3/4" Northern Pike I hooked. What a fight with 16 ft canoe getting pulled around in circles! Now if only we had had a landing net that was as well-designed as this anchor... :(

Like this Product
Haven't used yet but it seems like a well made product. As said before if you use in a stream where the current flows good you might end up snagged on something and lose your anchor.Think i will be using the anchor bag that came with my pontoon boat and if i hang up my bag of rocks no great loss.
