Do you have to reset every day?

I don’t suppose you HAVE to reset, but I do. I just want to track my morning walks to be sure I’ve gone at least 2 miles. I also slide the battery half way out when not in use to preserve battery life. I have a couple of walking routes that I already know the mileage on, and I was happy to see this was very accurate with step count.

Does it accurately count elliptical “steps”?

I know that when I'm working out it will count my steps as long as my legs allow a moving motion then it will count as a step. It picks up movements that cause a jolt in the leg and hip level. I hope this helps

How convert steps to distance?

It doesn’t convert. It just counts your steps. It easy though to convert by mutiplying number of the steps by the average lenght of a step and divide the results by 12 to obtain the distance in feet.
