Buy two, just in case you tear the first one!
I installed this with the oil pan gasket and the high flow oil pump on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. Might as well do them all if you are wrestling that oil pan off. If you are installing all three do not use the tools (that hold the pan up when starting to install screws) with the oil pan gasket until you are sure that the oil pump and pickup don't keep the pan from sealing right. It's a pain to keep taking off the oil pan with those tabs. I had to use my special hammer to beat the pan so the pump would clear. Look up the videos and you'll see what I mean. I packed the pump with vaseline to help prime it. I'm not sure if it was needed, but better safe than sorry. As soon as I started my jeep the pressure immediately went up to 60 PSI, and has settled to 40 psi at idle (before it would drop to 20 psi at idle). It does go high when you press the pedal, but never above 80 psi because of the relief valve. The pump is well made. There is a tight tolerance to install the pickup tube. I put the pickup in the freezer overnight to shrink it. Then you can use a wrench that fits above the collar and hit the wrench with a hammer to install it. You might also have to slightly bend the pickup to allow the oil pan to fully seal. Good lubrication and no oil leaks!

Good seal...buy two if this is your first time
I used a similar seal on my daughter's Jeep Cherokee 4.0L (1992). (I haven't yet had time to use this on my Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0L.) However, based on my experience with the 4.0L, if this is the first time you are doing this, do yourself a favor and buy TWO. I screwed up the first one, because installing the two-piece unit has a secret and since the directions online are a little unclear, I didn't figure out my mistake until after the first try. Oh, and since you have to remove the oil pan to get at it, you might as well get a new pan gasket while you are at it.The great thing about the 4.0L is that the main seal is a two-piece seal so that you don't have to remove the transmission. The bad thing about the 4.0L is that a two-piece seal is more likely to leak. That being said, there are some great write-ups out there about changing the seal. It sounds easy--drop the oil pan, pull the last bearing cap, push the old seal out with a brass drift, push the new one in, bolt together, and go. There's a little plastic tab that comes in this kit with no instructions. That's the secret. Use that little plastic tab to prevent cutting the top part of the seal when you push the seal into the crankshaft groove. In this write-up, it's where the guy says to "keep a finger hard against the seal." [...] The finger trick failed me, but that little plastic tab did the trick.

1994 jeep wrangler yj 4.0L V6
Fit my 1994 jeep wrangler yj 4.0L V6. Been in for a month. No leaks. Even running synth oil. Be sure to get rtv sealant to use on the corners. Once installed I let everything dry for 48hrs before refilling with oil. 👍🏻

The process for changing this seal is a PITA for those who have done it before. Take your time and ensure you have a clean area to perform this job. Go to the internet and watch some videos of how to do this job and not how to do this job. I swear there are some videos out there on the internet made by people who have no business to ever hold a screwdriver in their hands. Look for videos that look like they are doing a quality job and you should have no problems. Biggest tip I can offer is to pay attention to the RTV placement and cure times before adding oil and operating the engine.
