Does this fit in ikea kallax shelves?

I just purchased a Kallax and the cubes are 13 1/4" wide, 13 1/4" high and 15" deep, which are all 'inside' the cube measurements. All the different Kallax units' cubes are the same.

Would the lid close if there are tabs?

No it won’t close if the files have tabs and if you force the lid down , it crushes the tabs. Only practical for files without tabs.

Does the lid fit over the hanging file folders when added to the box?

Yes. The lid fits over the hanging folders.

Does this box have a chemical smell?

I did not smell a chemical smell from this item. I am reasonably sensitive to chemical smells (e.g., will not go into a candle shop, use in scented products when possible, and my eyes, nose and lungs can feel uncomfortable in a carpet store), but not super-sensitive. Then again, this file box is less permeable to dust buildup than the wicker file box it replaced, so overall I might be less prone to congestion, sneezing, etc.
