Better for sandy bottom than 4-Point, folding arm anchors
I've had the folding type for several years. Problem is that a single arm doesn't dig into the sandy/muddy bottom to hold you in place. This does, however, there's a few tricks I've learned:1: Its better to sort of throw it out than just dropping it down. Needs a bit of angle to dig into the bottom.2. I use a Scotty Anchor device so I have to make sure I have enough slack in the rope to throw the anchor out.3. While I've never gotten an anchor stuck in the oyster beds, I do as others noted, tie the rope to the bottom and use a zip tie to hold it in place at the top just in case you get wedged in a tough spot. And IF for some reason you lose it, well, that's probably a lot better than damaging your yak ($20 vs. $3K)...4 Stars vs. 5 because its a bit light compared to others. I may try the mod' noted above by attaching some more lead to it, but not quite sure the best way to do that, or placement.Happy Hunting.

Simple, light, and great for my fishing!
I am fairly new to the kayak world, and I feel fortunate that I found an experienced 'yaker to point me to this style anchor. It doesn't seem to be the most commonly used style, but I definitely think it is the best. The claw works great on any type of lake bottom, and I have not had any trouble removing it from weeds as I had expected. It is very light, but holds strongly in place. Not much fancy about it, but I highly recommend it as the best anchor for anyone fishing from a kayak.Note: Make sure to attach your anchor rope to the very bottom of the anchor, then use a zip tie or some monofilament line to connect it to the top loop. This is a breakaway feature that will save you an anchor in case you do get it snagged on a boulder or underwater tree or something like that. It will break the line or tie, and pull the anchor up from the bottom end instead. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I was given this same advice, so passing it along. Some great videos online if you need more info.

Located in the Great Lakes Region we fish mostly rivers and inland lakes
I use this anchor with my 12' Native Watercraft. Located in the Great Lakes Region we fish mostly rivers and inland lakes. My son and I finally have anchors that keep us in a set position. If you want an anchor that will hold you in a spot without the annoying drift, buy this anchor. We've tried other styles, but none come close to this thing in windy conditions. It has the holding power that other styles lack. The Bruce Shovel style anchor IMO is the best anchor out there for kayaks. Rig it up with a quick release if your so inclined. It will keep you from loosing your anchor if it gets stuck We did and its very simple. There are tons of tutorials on You Tube if your unsure how to do it. (very simple). I hate to beat a dead horse, but I really am amazed at the holding power this thing has. Buy from this seller or any other seller. Just buy one. You won't be disappointed

Great little anchor!
I’ve used Bruce style anchors in the past on boats from 20’ to 40’ feet long after loosing 2 boats to Dansforth anchors that pulled out after a tide change and would not reset. The Bruce style resets in it’s own length. This small Bruce style anchor will be used for an open water rowing shell when I want to “park” for a while. I added about 4’ of galvanized chain and 100’ of anchor line.I’m confident that it will work well and the small size stows easily. Great price as well!

JUST ADD SOME LEAD AND DUCT TAPE, PERFECT - (read review)
LIKE I SAID, I ADDED 2 BARS OF LEAD WITH DUCT TAPE TO GIVE IT SOME MORE WEIGHT. I PLACED THE LEAD BARS BETWEEN THE 90 DEGREE ANGLE AND THE TEETH, AND IT HOLDS GREAT IN THE MUD, SAND, AND GRAVEL NOW. EVEN WITH A HUGE BLUECAT RIPPING LINE OUT, IT DOES A GOOD JOB. 5 STAR IF IT WAS A BIT HEAVIER AT THE SAME SIZE. GREAT ANCHOR, GO FOR IT. - svf

2.5lb 1kg bruce anchor
2.5lb 1kg is perfect for my float tube. I fish out of a Cumberland classic float tube and this anchor on muddy bottoms here in the midwest is rock solid. I added probably about a 2-ft piece of chain to help it sink in. Once it does it does not even wiggle. Plus this seller has the best price at $10 compared to most others. Shipping was reasonable and came within the promised window.

worked on a rough day
I had a bit of a problem finding a shackle that was small enough to go through the hole and hook to a chain. Once I got that taken care of it worked great. Kept my PWC in place on a pretty wavy day. I would recommend having one for the rough days. Update.. I actually ordered a 2nd one as a back anchor. Works great.
