Hisense U8 85” TV: A Stunning Display of Innovation and Performance
The Hisense U8 85” TV is a showstopper! With its massive screen and stunning picture quality, it delivers an immersive viewing experience that’s hard to beat. The Mini-LED technology ensures deep blacks and vibrant colors, while the high refresh rate makes motion look incredibly smooth—perfect for sports and gaming. The built-in sound system is surprisingly powerful, eliminating the need for external speakers in most cases. Plus, Hisense continues to impress with smart features and a user-friendly interface. If you’re looking for a top-tier TV without the astronomical price tag, the U8 is a phenomenal choice!

An amazing 85 inch TV at this (or almost any) price point
I ordered the 85 inch Hisense U8N TV, with the “free” placement and removal of boxing addition. Both exceeded expectations. On the TV, I had done a lot of research about a new 85 inch TV to replace my 2019 75 inch Samsung. Hisense’s 2024 U8N was pretty much at the top of the list for high-end quality at a reasonable (lower end?) price point. Right out of the box, its brightness and contrast were exceptional, and the built-in speakers were pretty darn good as well. (I did hook it up to an inexpensive 3.1.2 Hisense soundbar that does stuff such as Dolby Atmos, which is really good in its own right.) I followed a number of suggestions for tweaking the picture I had read about on-line (setting “Filmmaker” as the default picture mode—which also disables Hisense’s form of motion smoothing—turning off Active Contrast, Super Resolution, and the like), and the picture is awesome. Perhaps you can still get darker blacks with OLED, but this U8N is pushing it pretty close. The most common negative I hear about mini-LED TVs such as this Hisense is that the picture brightness/contrast drops off significantly as one gets 30 degrees or so to the side of the TV. Our setup has all of us within 15 or 20 degrees, and there is no noticeable degradation in the picture quality. At its price point, at least still in mid 2025, I am confident in thinking that it is hard to beat.

Very good TV for the money
Great picture, good built in sound for a flatscreen TV, decent google operating system though I do miss some of the features of my old Roku. Remote is simple but works well and is easy to use. Overall its a fantastic TV. Ive had it mounted on the wall for nearly a year now without any issues. I was nervous ordering an 85 inch TV online and getting it shipped but other than having to wait a couple weeks for it to cross the country everything went well.

Hisense U8 Series 65U8N Waste of Money
Upscalling is horrible. Picture is grainy on some OTA signals.Picture seems flat compared to other brands. Interface is clunky and confusing.Funny thing is my son has a Hisense two years old, and his picture seems clear andshows good depth and image quality. His TV was half the price of my Hisense U8 Series 65U8N.If the TV was $400, I would probably keep it. Howver, it is being returned. One more thing. I have owned many TV's in the past. Hisense leaves me with a bad feeling onquality and reliability. Hisense warranty states they may or may not send a repair technician under warranty to your home. Up to to Hisense to make the determination if you need to send it in on your dime to be fixed. GREAT deal for the price, but just a little different.
By far, this is the best non-OLED tv I think I've ever seen. EXTREMELY bright whites, deep blacks, and color is crazy good and accurate. Sound isn't bad for built-in speakers. Interface is great for the most part. UI is snappy and easy to navigate (once it's actually setup).A few things to note that kept this from being a 5-star TV for me:1) The VESA mounting points are irregular for a 65" TV. So out of the box, this didn't work with my existing mount that my previous 65" used. This one is on me for not checking beforehand.2) The supplied stand is not good. It has a slight backward lean that makes the experience just strange. The fact that it's just one leg in the middle also doesn't give me a ton of confidence in its stability.3) The on-screen volume control is annoying. I use an external optical soundbar (not eARC). So why does it still come up with an irrelevant volume slider that doesn't actually match the volume. And when it's "muted" why does the mute icon stay persistent? Just let it disappear after a few seconds.4) Setup process was annoying. If I was less technologically inclined, I'd probably return the TV. Unless you have a Google Home already setup (I'm sure most do not), it's a PITA to get going. Setup process easily took 30+ minutes. All that said, I'd still purchase the TV again given the chance. These are just my observations – YMMV!
