TExES Science 4-8 (116) Secrets Study Guide: TExES Test Review for the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards

Okay, so here's the deal... :)))I majored in a foreign language at university (Russian), so I don't come from a Science background. I did, however, take numerous Science Courses in college, so I did at least know the basics of some of the topics being covered. However, I still needed something to help me prepare for the Science 4-8 Exam, so I purchased this book...First, the bad: It contains an overload of information (the print is really small) and, as several people here have already pointed out, it doesn't contain any illustrations or diagrams whatsoever. However, to be fair, it contains so much information that it would be impossible to publish a book that contains illustrations and diagrams for every topic being covered. My advice to you: Buy this book, start preparing several weeks in advance (in my case, I started studying about two months before I took the test for about an hour each day), do at least a few pages each day... You won't know everything, of course, but a lot of things you already will know. For the things you don't know, though, or need more clarification on, get on your laptop, Google the subject matter, and find/download your own illustrations and diagrams for each area that you don't feel uncomfortable with. It's what I did. It's tedious work, but little by little, you'll get through it... And finding your own images and diagrams for the topics that are difficult for you are a good way to study as well!Now, the good: As I already stated, I don't really have a Science background. TExES Exams are scored on a 100-300 scale with 240 (70%) being the passing mark, and after using mostly just this book to study, I passed the exam the first time I took it. Mind you, I only passed it with a 248 (74%), but I still passed it, and considering that I don't have a Science degree, I feel l didn't do too badly. I barely passed it, but that's much better than barely failing it. It should be said that several of my colleagues who have Biology or Chemistry degrees only passed the exam the second or third time taking it, while I passed it the first. To be honest, though, the exam covers so many different areas that there were really only three or four questions (out of a 100) on the exam that I felt the book had directly prepared me for, but because I passed with just a 74%, it was really just those three or four questions that made all the difference in the world to me.So, to sum up, I can say this... This book has A LOT of information and no images. It won't prepare you 100% for the exam, especially if you're not a "Science Person" like me. But using this book to study can give you a small bump in your scores, and that small bump, however insignificant, can determine whether you pass or fail.Without this book, I probably would have failed with a 65%, but with this book, I passed with a 74%. It's not a HUGE HUGE difference, but it did mean that I was able to pass the first time.Would I recommend this book? Yes, absolutely, especially if you don't come from a Science Background.

The Momentrix products are head and shoulders above other self-help study guides on the market. Momentrix also provides good quality online instructional videos that support your studying. Furthermore, it appears that Mometrix is regularly updating its study-guide products.

The book is presented in a way that makes it easier to study because it is divided into sections/domains. I felt this book has been beneficial in preparing me for the TExES Science 4-8 (116) certification exam. My test date is not until the beginning of July but with this book I feel much more prepared and confident. I am thinking about purchasing the Mometrix flash cards for the TExES Science 4-8 and TExES Science 4-8 Practice Questions as well once I get closer to my exam date because of how helpful this book has been. I really liked that it explained each test answers and that videos links are presented to go along with the material. The additional bonus materials provide were also very beneficial. Reading this book has helped me review and study much more effectively.

I bought this used. It was labeled good condition. I feel they overestimated the condition. I expected slight marks. Or signs of use. The book is dirty, pages are crumpled and bent. It looks like they used a regular marker instead of a highlighter because it is difficult to read through.

The book is split up nicely with and gives a short informational about each topic. There is only one 90 question practice test with explained answer key, so I would recommend using this book for more of a review and use free online resources if you are preparing for the TExES certification exam or anything else. Either way good summary on the topics and will be helpful.

Great study guide, just wish it had diagrams added in some parts (I'm a visual learner). The added video links are really useful.

This study guide is very inclusive! I loved the secrets and access to bonus material. I anticipate that I will be very prepared for the exam.
