not enough
What is the difference between the earlier PRAXIS ESOL test, or the 0360, and the current one, or the 5361? It seems that the only difference in topics is that only the 0360 covered articulatory terms, such as fricative and affricate. It is apparent that there is not much other difference when it comes to selection of specific facts. It is also obvious that this manual does not cover all of the selected facts in the 5361. The practice exam in this manual asks about 19 terms which are not covered in the text but are covered in the 0360 manual published by REA. So you may wish to order that one too.But you wouldn't be perfectly safe even then. The practice exam also asks 6 questions which are not covered in either manual.

Helped me pass the test!
Normally I am not very keen on these types of study packets, BUT this study book was worth every penny. Not only did it prepare me for the test and help me get into the mindset of how the questions would be laid out, but it also helped me pass the test. The beginning pages have lots of great information on different terms and important concepts, as well as important figures in the ESL and educational community. Then there are multiple choice study questions with a handy answer key. The answer key is great because it doesn't just give you the answer, it explains why it is that answer. Then towards the end, there are lots of helpful study tips and tips for easing test anxiety. This was a great study guide! I highly recommend it!

Don't do it!
This book is a haphazardly thrown together manual that glazes over a few concepts but gives you no real solid knowledge. I'm irritated I wasted my money on it. For example, the paragraph on Morphology: no break down of free vs. bound, , class-preserving vs. class changing, or derivational vs. inflectional. Simple stuff, but it's not in there. Not that I bought it for its test taking "secrets" but reading them gave me a good laugh. It's as if the authors don't realize that the people taking a Praxis exam have taken many big-time tests before-- they inform us of the "physical signs of nervousness" and that a lack of preparation would be the likely cause of an unsuccessful score, etc. Mind=blown. Those ten pages on secrets could have gone towards actually covering the material Also, their link to a website with "bonus material" in the back of the book takes you to their site where you're encouraged to buy more things from them. They throw in a paper with financial advice and class art projects (potato painting anyone?) for FREE. Wowza. Please, do not waste your money.

Good but not in-depth
This study guide was helpful, but was not well organized. Also, as someone who hasn't taken these classes, it didn't explain the concepts in enough depth. It also doesn't have a listening portion for the practice test which is probably the most difficult part of the test. Overall, it's a good study guide but I would definitely get another study guide to accompany it.

This book is very disorganized, and the presentation of topics makes absolutely no sense. The practice test at the end has very little correlation with the information presented at the beginning of the book (at least a third of the questions referenced topics NEVER mentioned at all elsewhere in the book). Most of the information was not even on the actual PRAXIS test, and the book does not discuss the actual listening sections or prepare you for them at all (phonetic alphabet, etc.). Save your money and buy a different book. This one is way too expensive for what it is!

Used the book, passed the test!
I was a little worried about purchasing a study guide that I wasn't sure would be very useful, but I finally decided that it couldn't hurt. I used this book to study for the exam and passed! It is great for an overview of the topics that will be on the test, and was a great refresher after two years worth of ESL coursework. True, it is not well-organized as others have said, but I found the short explanations to be very helpful.

O.K. not enough =/
The preparation guide was good but it does not include everything that you need to study, for example Sounds of Language and letters sound symbols. Including an Index might be a good idea.

This study guide provides an excellent review of the materials covered in the courses for ESL/ELL certification. Also, the practice questions and answers were extremely helpful. I recommend it highly to anyone who is studying for the Praxis exam.
