ReplogleGlobes 35522 Leather Expedition Globe, Small

Let me just start off by saying that I bought this elsewhere cause I found it for a better price. I was expecting it to have a few flaws (after reading the reviews), but was willing to take a chance, so I ordered it. When I opened the box, I wanted to cry. The globe was separating in half, so I pressed it back together while I thought to myself "What a shame.This is going to be returned!" Then I took a closer look. Yes, it wasn't even lined up...which was fine, cause I didn't plan on keeping it. Then I noticed the tape that conceals the equator was all bunched up in places, and was not even placed accurately. What a mess! So I carefully peeled it off, and reapplied it myself, just for the heck of it. I tightened the bottom bolt cause it was loose, and left it sitting on the table. I slowly started it see it as the nice globe it should be. Was still skeptical on whether or not I'd keep it. But by the end of the day, I felt it wasn't as bad as it looked when I first saw it, before I fixed it up. The leather is gorgeous (even though it's lifted in certain areas...but nothing terribly obvious), and I don't cringe when I look at it anymore. I would have liked the stand to be the same color as the stain they used for the base, though (it's lighter than what you see in the picture).

This is a beautiful globe but unfortunately I cannot recommend it due to large flaws that detract from its use.The first globe I ordered came with a few misaligned latitude lines (which I was willing to overlook), and more importantly, some slits in the leather that looked like they would catch and possibly peel with regular handling. I called Replogle, and, after sharing photos with a helpful employee who seemed genuinely concerned with the issues, was generously offered a replacement ball that arrived via express mail. This new ball is very smooth but has significant misalignment that resulted in cropped names (the first letter of a number of countries in W. Africa and Europe was cropped, sometimes by half) and misaligned country boundaries along the same vertical line.If you're not looking closely the globe is quite lovely, but cursory inspection turns up a number of flaws that should not appear on a $200 product (especially one meant as a gift). If you're interested in this globe I would encourage you to buy it at a store so you can inspect it and decide if you're willing to live with the flaws. Or try your luck here - as I said, Replogle had wonderful customer service and may get these production problems worked out in the future. Until then, I won't be buying another Replogle product unless I see it in person.

I ordered this for my husband's birthday... he loves it, I love it! The quality is great, the price was reasonable, and it looks fantastic with our more traditional decor. We both really love the genuine leather material, it's quite nice. The only thing I would have changed is to make the topography texture raised a bit more.

The globe I received was pretty different from the product photo. The main difference is the color contrast between ocean and land: it looks great in the photo, but on the actual globe the ocean color is much darker. The overall effect is muted and a bit dingy. The stand color is also different, being much lighter than the photo. It's not particularly obvious that the globe material is leather; it just comes across as an unusually dark, monotone globe. It doesn't look terrible per se, but I would not have bought it for this price if I'd seen in advance what I got.

Fast shipping, beautifully finished touches in design. It was a great anniversary gift.

The most dull, cheap-looking piece ever. So disappointed.

We have been looking for a quality glode for my upstairs home office, and found it with this globe. The small manual that comes with it helps with really understandng the International date line, time zones, distances and brings World geography into perspective

Purchased this for my husband's library/reading room. He really likes it so I am as happy as can be with the purchase. It is a well made, attractive, and functional addition to his room.
