Siddhartha (Dual-Language) (Dover Dual Language German)

I had known this family as I live in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. I am working on a story of my own concerning Flagg Court, an apartment building in Bay Ridge that was built during the 1930s. The author's grandparents had lived there post World War II.The amazing Crowley and Fernandez families of my neighborhood did much to help so many others.Nicholas Fernandez has written a very fine piece.

Dual language books like this are a great way to practice reading literature in another language. You can glance at the English and then work through the German without needing to look up words every other sentence. I find the translation to be pretty readable as well.

This novel is sublimely translated by Stanley Applebaum. Hesse's status as a writer of the first rank was cemented and enshrined with the publication of this work, I highly recommend this dual-language book not only for German-language students but for anyone wishing an elevated appraisal of the human condition. Be prepared...you will feel much better after reading this book!

I have purchased different translations of Siddhartha and I find this to be the best English translation and having the German is a big additional plus. I found Mr. Applebaum's translation allows the story to flow very well and he seems to capture the nuances in English. There are even interesting footnotes that add to the story.

I read well in German, but I like having the English text to check on words I don't know. The translation is good and the alignment of text on the opposing page makes it so much easier than constantly looking up words. This is a good tool for improving your language skill and it's a classic book.

Who could not like Herman Hesse? I already owned this same book. My purchase at Amazon was another copy, a gift for a friend.

My vocabulary isn't large so this saves me a lot of dictionary work. Also, sometimes I don't quite catch the nuances and a translation clarifies it for me without a lot of struggle. So I am building my knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.

Excellent book, you will want to finish it in one sitting even if you are having some trouble understanding the German text.

ドイツ語の初級文法書を二冊、中級文法書を一冊目を通して、初めての原書にチャレンジしたのがこの本です。当然のことながら未知の単語が多く、単語帳を作りながら進めて読了まで三か月かかりました。日本語訳も参照しましたが、文構造が解らないとき、英訳を見るとスッと理解できることが結構多くありました。英語が多少できれば（私の英語力は40年以上前の大学入試の時の遺産です）読解の助けにもなりますし、英語の勉強にもなります。初めて原書を読もうとされる方にとってこのシリーズはお勧めです。ちょっと値段が高いですが。

Decided it would be a good way to learn German and get in a classic. So far am happy with the idea of a dual-language book however notice the translation is quite different to another copy I have seen.

Zuerst: Das Buch ist einwandfrei.Die Qualität der Lieferung hingegen eine Frechheit. Von 2 bestellten Exemplaren wurde nur eines geliefert welches zudem mit Kleber und Kartonfetzen unbrauchbar ruiniert wurde. Defekte Lieferung zurück gesendet. Zwei neue bestellt. Die 2. Lieferung war leicht ramponiert, aber noch ok.Das fehlende erste Buch wurde mir jedoch nicht erstattet. Untragbar / mehr als ärgerlich.
