Filling, tastey but not gourmet
The Peak Refuel Breakfast Skillet 2-Pack is a solid, practical option if you need something that actually fills you up and keeps you going. The texture can come off a bit spongy depending on how you prep it, but the flavor is there. More importantly, it’s filling. I used it during work, and it held up well in terms of keeping energy steady. It’s also flexible—you can always add to it if you want to bulk it up or tailor it to your taste. Prep time runs about five to ten minutes, but that’s not wasted time—you’re usually handling other tasks while it rehydrates. Like most freeze-dried meals, it requires boiling water. That may be a drawback for some, but realistically, if you’re in a backpacking or survival scenario, you’re already planning to boil water anyway. Nutritionally, it strikes a decent balance. You’re getting solid protein with vegetables, low sugar, and while the sodium is still there, it’s not as excessive as many surplus MREs. It feels like a cleaner option overall. It’s also worth noting this is designed as a two-serving meal. If you’re eating the whole pouch yourself, it’s a lot—and probably not how it’s intended to be used. Like anything, rotating different meals is the way to go to avoid fatigue. It’s not the most compact option out there, but anyone with military or backpacking experience understands how to make space work. With some packing discipline, it fits into your kit just fine. Overall, this is a dependable, good-tasting meal that does what it’s supposed to do—fuel you. Not perfect, but a strong option if you want something a step above standard field rations, especially when you need something reliable in a pinch. Value for money is not bad, considering this is a two pack meal which each meal is two servings. So a four meal serving enough to help you get from Point A to Point B.

Wanted a bit more
On the trail it would be fine. However it lacks flavor, kinda bland.

Delicious - great for campsite camping
I took these for the first time on my bi-yearly camping trip and this is my first time with MREs in general. I chose this brand due to the good reviews, especially where taste was concerned. This one in particular was outstanding. They're great for home base, campsite style camping. I'm not really a backpacker so space isn't really an issue for me though I try to pack light and compact. One thing we generally don't skimp on is food but dietary restrictions made me look into alternatives. This was far tastier than it felt like it had any business being and was filling enough for my dinner. Most excellent.

Only the Chicken Alfredo Review
The Teriyaki and Sweet Pork were awful and i'm shocked that they are made by the same company! The Chicken Alfredo is honestly just as good as a basic "Italian Restaurant" delivery service in Florida. The chicken inside has almost zero fat/gristle and is extremely moist and tastes like it was just cubed from a breast . I've eaten 7 of these and only bit into 2 pieces that I didn't like (most people wouldn't even notice). I'm not sure how this company went so wrong with the other flavors!! The Granola was not bad either.

Meh
I thought a 1-serving meal was about right in terms of quantity but the meal was blah. Too much potato which dissolved into mush rather than staying in chunks as shown in the picture. Also, really no spice at all despite the vegs. Kinda seemed more like mashed potatoes with some vegs thrown in. Was okay with a lot of hot sauce added but don't think I'd buy again. On same backpack trip, I tried a couple of dinner meals which were both great so think I'll stick with one of those for breakfast instead on my next trip.

This was my favourite of all the Peak Refuel meals I had while backpacking. The portion size was great (for 1) and the taste seemed like something I would make in my kitchen! The best thing about these meals is that they don't skimp out on the meat in the packages! The veggies were nice and it took the exact amount of time and water the package said. It wasn't soupy like some of the other brands I have tried and it was something to look forward to after a long day on the trails!

Chicken teriyaki rice
Taste is the main concern for me and this tasted great! The whole family enjoyed it. I would definitely get this one again.
