Product Description Created by Frederick Ashton for a film in 1971, Tales of Beatrix Potter brings alive, with rich characterisation and invention, the famous images and stories of Beatrix Potter. John Lanchbery's music (incorporating mostly forgotten Victorian melodies) is utterly captivating, inspiring spirited playing from the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Paul Murphy. Christine Edzard's designs conjure up a lost England of field mice and Berkshire black pigs, of foxgloves and shady groves. Swept up in the ballet's childlike exuberance, the entire cast delivers outstanding portrayals of such colourful figures as Jemima Puddle-Duck, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and the irrepressible Peter Rabbit. Ashton's warm and witty, yet demanding, choreography creates a piece of charm and grace for all ages.Press Reviews"Peter Rabbit's beautiful and magical garden of dreams will transport every adult straight back to their childhood." Stage, not film, version.
This is one of Ashton's most delightful ballets, but this is the staged version, not the film version, which is a genuine classic.

Frederick Ashton's Tales of Beatrix Potter [Blu-ray] Review
This is a very fun video. The costumes are unbelievably great. The music, not so much. Fake classical claptrap. But that's not why you get this video. Again, The costumes!BTW: It was delivered on time and in good order.Thank you,Joe

The best ballet of all time. Timeless, classic, & beautiful
The best ballet! My Grand Daughter, and I love watching this together. Even at a young age this captured her heart. She not only loves watching it but dances along.

Great ballet for all
Great production for adults as well as kids. Especially for kids to spike an interest in theatre and ballet.

The best ballet for watching at home
Possibly the best ballet for the non ballet lover in your life. Very accessible to both children and adults. For anyone with non British ballet lovers on their Christmas list this is a great gift. My girlfriend is American, had never seen it and adored it.

A Charming Ballet
As stated by G. I. Giles, this is a ballet which gives delight to children of all ages. It has been brilliantly choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton so as to illustrate the characters involved in each tale with their own steps and body movements. This is appreciated better with each viewing. It would not only give the young pleasure but also be appreciated by an older audience. The filming and sound are both of a high standard and the orchestra performance is excellent. i can find nothing to fault this production in which the standard of dancing is very high.It was a good buy at the price paid but if it was coupled with another short ballet it would have been an even better buy.

Enchantment for all ages
What could be sweeter. Beatrix Potter's delightful creations waltz and pirouette on stage. This is NOT the film set version and benefits from that magic of a performance taking part in front of a live audience. Costumes, set design and lighting are all enchanting and the brilliance of the dancing and characterisation ensures it never slips into being twee. A sheer delight.

Superb Music. Wonderful Dancing
I have taken a liking to classical ballet, but I bought this DVD realising that this ballet would be very different! Any fears that I had wasted my money were quickly dispelled. John Lanchbery's music was extremely varied. The same is true of Ashton's choreography. The costumes and sets were very colourful. All the dancers excelled, and it was delightful to see eight children being treated as complete equals by the (about thirty) adult dancers.

A Great Re-Staging.
I prefer this live filmed version to the original feature film presentation. To my sensibilities is seemed cuter and funnier and less drawn out. The dancing seemed better too, having the advantage of a sprung stage floor for the dancers to work against as apposed to grass and sand covered surfaces as in parts of the film. It is also nice hearing the audiences appreciation as well. Costume-wise, the squirrels in the movie version were superior but performance-wise of equal comedic value in both versions. The Jemima Puddle-Duck & Mr Fox sequence is much funnier in this version and the Mouse & Pig sequences more entertaining than the movie where (for me) they dragged on. It has been well filmed with good framing to show the dance with a nice mix of angles, none too distant nor too close giving a fair impression of how the average human eye in a good seat at the theater would have perceived this performance. It's funny how even with all the costuming and fake heads, some dancers still stand out more than others as having more flair or stage presence.

Childhood memories - great movie
Great film of the theatre production of 2010 which I didn't get to see live. Almost identical to the wonderful 1970 film that I've played and played as so many childhood memories of these Tales. My only disappointment was Tabitha Twitchet (cat) who appeared n the final dance gathering scene in the original film was absent! Apart from that good purchase, good seller, arrived on time.
