enjoy All
I enjoy the entire series of Pern books written by both Anne McCaffrey and her son Todd. I have read and reread them and they never fail to entertain. I have an open mind and believe in the unbelievable.

sweet story
Another great tale by the master storyteller Anne McCaffrey! A continuation of the story of the Renegades of Pern and the dolphins that arrived with the first settlers!

Wonderful story, long-time favorite
I have loved this book for many years, in addition to the rest of the Pern series, and purchased this one as a gift to share the joy of the dolphins.

Fantastic book!
You just can't go wrong with any Anne McCaffrey book. I especially love this one because it's about dolphins. So fun, cheerful, and playful as well as so lonely and wistful to have humans back in their lives!

Dolphin Lovers Story of Pern
I love and adore dolphins and so I liked this book very much, also because it was set in one of my favourite fantasy worlds, Pern. The dolphins were intelligent and cute and adorable. I would have liked to read more about them and Readis and T'lion in this book, that was one thing lacking and the reason for my four stars instead of full five. There were other storylines of Pern continuing from previous books and familiar characters. It would be great if there were more about the Dolphins other books. There is one story, The Dolphin's Bell in the Chronicles of Pern: The First Fall, which I intend to read sometime soon. This book was a very enjoyable read.

RIP Anne McCaffrey
I read this long ago. I recently picked up a large collection of McCaffrey hardback (many first edition) novels. I felt somehow in Her presence as I was about halfway through this book when she passed to 'between.'This is not my favorite book of the Pern novels, but it ranks very high. I am passionate about dolphins and swimming... and dragons. But at times I wished for more of Readis's life than the life of the 'politicians' of the planet. I wished for more science discovery. There was a lot of that, but I wanted more. But I know these are the threads of the next books and the evolving of Pern, so I shouldn't complain.Though I have the hardback, I now prefer to read on Kindle where it doesn't hurt my eyes. And at times I need the audio version to listen to when my eyes get tired. Since the text to speech tool didn't work on this novel I downloaded the Audible version. Hearing a human voice narrating is always preferable to the computerized versions, anyway.Mel Foster's interpretation was different than what I expected. I think, knowing that Anne McCaffrey is of Irish descent, I expected a brogue to come from the sea holds rather than what sounded a southern drawl. But that was Mel's interpretation and I soon adjusted. He did a decent job keeping the character's voices dissimilar enough to know who was talking when.I look forward to 'worming' my way through all of Anne's books, those I have read and those I haven't yet. I hope I can afford to use Audible/Kindle help to do this. R.I.P. to my most favorite author.Let the all humans, firelizards, dolphins and dragons keen:Drummer, beat and Piper, blowHarper, strike and Soldier, goFree the flame and sear the grassesAs the dawning Red Star passes...Until eternity passesFor Anne McCaffrey

I have read most of this series some years ago but now I need an e-reader I have started collecting my favourite authors. I like most of the Pern series very much. Also the Rowan and the Hive series.

This is an old favourite. I have to admit that I prefer the earlier Pern books before Anne began collaborating with her son. Her characterizations are impeccable, as is her visionary world. With the presence of the Master Harper as a thread tying the series together, I always have a character I can believe in and admire. McCaffrey's death has left the world poorer because we need to believe in a world where good, however humanly flawed, triumphs over evil.

Great read
I love Anne McCaffrey's Pern books. The Dolphins of Pern was a great mixture of old and new with wonderful new characters like Readis. Hope Todd McCaffrey will write more of this time in Pern's history.

I love all of the Dragon Book series
I love all of the Dragon Book series. It seems a lot of other dragon books written since has 'borrowed' this form of dragon and their innate telepathic sense. First read in my youth and re-read three times since - the only series I have reread apart from The Hollow Hills King Arthur trilogy. Especially good for the young and those who want a good read but dont want to be troubled by the darker aspects of some sci fi.

A great addition to the tales of Pern
Firstly, I must say it's probably been decades since I last read anything from this series but I enjoyed being taken back and felt like this bridged the gap adroidly with a different spin on a familiar tale!It ended rather abruptly. I felt more detail or perhaps breadth of story could have be given on the final section, but overall I was glad to be back! Might start re-reading the earlier novels now and get a blast from the past /future π
