Great Item!
I bought this for my husband. He is going on a mission trip to Peru. The item is small and can be taken easily without adding weight or being difficult due to size. The quality of this item is great! It is so small and compact that I was pleasantly surprised by the item when it's fully extended and put together. He hopes to catch food for the men while they are in the jungle. It will be a great addition to their trip.

Inexpensive novelty item
I havenโt taken it fishing yet, but upon setting it up I came across a couple issues. The line that comes on it is a joke. Too heavy and stiff, and upon removing it I found that it is severely twisted and zero care is taken with how it is initially attached to the spool. It would really just be better if they didnโt include line at all. Also upon extending and stowing the rod a couple of times, the third guide from the tip came loose. Nothing that canโt be fixed with a couple drops of superglue. I bought this as an inexpensive novelty, and that is precisely what it is. Iโm sure you can catch fish with it, and itโs pretty cool for what it is, but it is not a replacement for any of my arsenal of rods and reels. On par with the little Disney themed rods you pick up for kids at the local big box store. Iโm happy with it being a neat little toy

Store bought homemade pen reel.
Most of the stuff I buy that comes from china is very poor quality or just entirely incorrect. Same with this pen reel/rod. The reel keep falling off the stock. I tried to force it in to the fixing foot. The foot got a small tear and the real kept falling off. The fixing foots would spin around and the reel go flying. The foot is too thick and wide for the fixers. I ground down the thickness of the foots at the tips and on top. I then applied blue locktight to the end of the rod tube. That seems to solve that problem. Next I'll put a small amount of silicone tape on the threads. Another problem was after all that the bail would not close when I trying to wind the reel it would lock and I had flip it shut with my little finger. After screwing with it for an hour it finally would shut but not very smooth. Next comes the BIG test, a real fish trial. If everything works ? I will chrome the filed edges and seal the small spot. Maybe the rod will not break and the reel does not disassemble it's self. A little too money for me to do a complete remake!

Rod Jammed After Extending the First Time
Rod got jammed and broke immediately upon opening. Sent it back for an exchange and hoping it was just bad luck.

Fun for small fish
I keep this in my car or backpack for spur of the moment fishing. The reel isn't very well made(mostly plastic) and I'd suggest immediately replacing the line. Don't fill it all the way or you'll get a rats nest. The pole is great, have caught 14" rainbows and it feels like pulling up a whale. Super light weight action and ideal for what I use it for. I wouldn't use for salt water.

Get what you pay for...?
I went for this rod because the US manufacturer I've been eyeing has a piss-poor website that's impossible to understand. I'm still trying to figure out whether or not I made the right decision buying this. For starters, the reel is not the best quality - in fact, you're better off getting a cheap ice fishing spinning rod to go with this instead. The internal drag washer is already rusted, the reel backtracks even when locked, and a handful of other nitpicks. The line is incredibly thick, especially considering you'd be going for relatively smaller fish with this rod. I re-spooled it immediately with some cheap 4x tippet I had lying around. As for the rod - it's one of the cheapest-feeling rods I've ever held. The lock washers that keep the reel on the grip come loose constantly, and the notches that keep the reel in place are made of aluminum so flimsy that I warped it trying to keep the reel in place. If you don't position the lock washers just right while collapsing the rod, the cap might not properly fit. The blanks feel cheaply made, too. Some blanks feel too snug and some are so loose I had to put painter's tape around the base so it'd stay in place. Like, I'm fairly certain I'll be able to catch some fish with the rod/reel combo - I'm skilled enough of an angler to figure it out - but even $25 ice fishing rods with spinning combos are higher quality than this thing. If you're in it for the novelty, sure, go ahead. But if that US rod company ever gets its act together and redoes their entire website - I'll never buy this rod ever again.

It Really Casts Well!!!
At first it looks like a novelty fishing combo kit, that's compact but probably less than stellar when it comes to casting and fishing. The guides on the rod are quite small in diameter, so when I tried casting I was pleasantly surprised that it is actually a very nice little rod. I could easily and accurately cast an ultralight spinner nearly 50 feet, and it has plenty of strength to reel in decent sized fish. It would make a great compact rod for fishing small streams or keep handy in a boat or canoe. It also worked well for kids, due to it's shorter length and small scale reel. Definitely worth every penny.

Really awesome product! Bought it for my husband who is an avid fisherman. He keeps it in his truck so he can fish little rivers or streams he comes across while our driving. Compact size, decent reel. Very happy with the product.

Husband loved this, I bought it for him for our trip to Western Canada. He was able to fish along the Bow rivers edge, packed up nicely for his carryon.

Wast of money!

One of the eyelets came unglued but I just superglued it back on. The reel is very nice for being so tiny and you can still get a fair amount of line on it. It folds down so small. Very pleased with purchase.

I wanted something a bit more on the lighter side and this fit the bill! Super light weight and I would suggest you use this as a back up rod or just as a fun experiment. Not practical to run as a serious set up. The reel seems to be okay. The line is garbage - get rid of it and throw some 2-6lbs mono line on it. Super important you spool this correctly otherwise it will lead to frustration and hassle. You have to watch this little 500 series spinning reel real closely other wise it could lead to some tangles if the line is not seated correctly around the spool. I am in the process of trying to mount a 500 to 1000 series real to this rod using some hose clamps. This should increase the functionality by a lot. It will reduce the portable aspect of it a bit. Build quality - Seems to be on the cheaper side but you get what you pay for. If you can find a really good little 500 series reel to mount to it with name brand value - It would end up much better. Overall, I enjoy this product. You have to know how to fish with these rods. light mono line with the drag set loose. Not too much yanking the rod around at high angles otherwise it could lead to the rod tip cracking. I would say, this is a fun little rod that if paired with a decent reel (mounting it yourself) could be a solid, positive experience. 8/10
