Powerful, compact, durable and user-friendly!
4Sevens/Foursevens Quark AA²/ Pro QP2A-X Black Finish / Cool White LED; 2XAA; 280 LumensFor clarification: this model (Quark Pro QP2A-X) is the newer version of the previous Quark Pro QP2A, which only puts out 205 lumens. Look for the "-X" added to the end of the name if you want this 280 lumens model instead of the 205.I purchased the 4Sevens Quark Pro QP2A-X for my husband to use at work. He is a security officer at a casino and has several requirements in a flashlight. This model fulfills them all. Now that I've played with this light, though, I want one for myself! Here's why we both love it:POWERFUL - This LED puts out a whopping 280 lumens. It will light up an entire room - even the half the light is facing away from. My husband was amazed the first time I showed him the maximum light setting. He says it far outshines his older, massive LED Maglite (which he mainly carried as a defensive weapon as opposed to a light source, but I digress). The QP2A-X is the second strongest light in the 4Sevens Quark Pro line of flashlights.COMPACT - This is a small flashlight: less then one inch thick, under six inches in length and just over 2 ounces in weight. Small enough to hold in your teeth if needed. It is very comfortable to hold in your hand, as it is not bulky and is quite light. The grip is knurled so it's less likely to slip from your hand. If you are concerned about the size being too small for larger hands, the packaging includes a rubberized hand grip that slides onto each end of the flashlight to create a hand loop. Slide your hand into the loop and the flashlight becomes secure in your palm (refer to picture).DURABLE - Waterproof, so it won't get messed up in the rain or if dropped into a bathtub. Made of aircraft-grade aluminum, so you can drop it and not worry. The lens is also impact-resistant.INTERFACE - Truly, this is the feature that sold me on the 4Sevens Quark Pro QP2A-X when I was comparison shopping. 4Sevens has the best user interface that I have found. There are two settings: A) With the bezel fully tightened, the flashlight is in 'tactical' mode, where you can switch between just two modes: Max and Strobe. Fully depress/click the tailcap button to activate the Max light setting. If you want to switch to Strobe, partially press the button (no need to click it) and the light begins to strobe. B) Loosen the bezel slightly. This enables you to cycle through the other six settings, which are (in the order that they cycle): Moonlight, Low, Medium, High, SOS, Beacon. Cycle through by clicking it on, then partially depress the button until you get the mode you wish to use. Because Moonlight is the first to turn on, you will not lose night vision. In total, you have 8 light modes to choose from. The beauty of having these two settings is, you can switch between Max and Moonlight with a simple tiny twist of the bezel (which you can do one-handed) instead of having to cycle through all eight settings. My husband utilizes Strobe to hail cabs at work, so being able to immediately switch between Max and Strobe is perfect for him.CANDLEMODE - This is yet another feature that swayed me. The base of the 4Sevens Quark Pro QP2A-X is FLAT! The tail button is recessed; it does not protrude like the 4Sevens Preon P2 or the 4Sevens Tactical line. This means it is unlikely to accidentally switch on when it is in your pocket, and it can also stand on its tail-end to serve as candle light. Great for camping or dinner during a power outage. If you often wear thick gloves when utilizing a flashlight, I would recommend the 4Sevens Quark Tactical QP2A-X since it appears to be identical to this Pro version, except the tail button protrudes, making it easier to click with a gloved hand.BATTERY - No need to hunt down and purchase fancy batteries. This light runs on two AA's. Cheap and commonly available around the home. Purchase rechargeable AA's and you're good to go. The stronger 4Sevens Quark Pro flashlight (the QP2L-X) gives more lumens and is shorter in length, but it requires special batteries, so this model (the QPA2-X) struck me as the better choice as it is more convenient.ACCESSORIES - The flashlight comes with an integrated clip (which the operator's manual says is removable). This clip also serves to keep the flashlight from rolling if you lay it down. The retail packaging includes the following: 1) An adjustable lanyard, which you can wear around your neck or double up around the wrist. 2) A flashlight holster with velcro closure, a belt loop and a triangular ring so you can clip the holder onto something (such as the lanyard). 3) Rubberized hand grip (mentioned previously). 4) Two AA batteries. The combination of the friendly user interface, the intensity of its light, the recessed tail button, its small size and its use of convenient AA batteries makes the 4Sevens Quark Pro QP2A-X the superior choice among its competitors and other 4Sevens models. It's a winner for work, play and home. We will be purchasing a second one from Amazon soon (it's $20 cheaper here than the 4Sevens website)!

Super bright and it holds up to the use and abuse of a clumsy mechanic...
Nice and bright!!! A a mechanic I love this flashlight, It replaced my streamlight pro-tac that ate up those not so easy to find C123A batteries that are a bit pricey... This is brighter and AA batteries are much easier to find, much cheaper, and seem to last longer,,, (Found a good deal on a 144 pack here on Amazon) My only complaint is I can't set it down, aim it and use it as a work light while under a vehicle. That does reduce battery life greatly, plus it gets kinda hot when left on for too long. Although that has helped remind me to turn it off if my pocket starts feeling warm... Been dropped in oil, coolant, diesel, and probably more, dropped many times over and the only damage, aside from paint chips. is the pocket clip has gotten pretty stretched out and doesn't hold tight in my pocket anymore... Also going to try rechargeable batteries after my 144 pack runs out...

Defective
Opened the package, inserted the batteries, switched on. Nothing. After checking and re-checking batteries and reading operating manual and trying again and again for half an hour gave up. Finally got it to work by inserting a tiny piece of aluminum foil between the case and the switch unit. For the price I paid for the flashlight, I don't want to have to mess around with foil: it's going back. Not even going to bother calling 4-7 customer care: it's a flashlight and shouldn't require this much effort.

Impressive little flashlight - while it lasted!
I read a lot of reviews online and watched numerous YouTube video reviews while shopping for flashlights, and finally decided to get this one. Amazon had the best price I could find. This is my first flashlight that cost more than $2-10. I'm hoping it lasts a lot longer than those usually do! If I keep liking it as much as my first impression (I'm still on the enclosed Duracells that came with it), I'll be getting more of them to give as gifts. It sure is a whole lot brighter than anything I've previously owned. Now, when I first read the description of "cool white LED", I was expecting something slightly different than this. This light actually seems a tad warmer in color than the groups of multiple LEDs on my cheap flashlights, which I would call "cool white" (which are actually slightly bluish, even though by comparison, they're not very bright at all.) When I shine it against a neutral white painted wall, the halo around the center spot produced by the FourSevens has a slight, pale almost yellowish cast, somewhat reminiscent of incandescent light, but not nearly that warm. And that's perfectly acceptable to me, as the light it produces gives a very natural appearance to whatever is being illuminated. The one I received is definitely NOT "green", as one of the other reviewers here reported getting. (For that matter, the batteries don't rattle around in mine either, so that buyer must have gotten a substandard one). I also appreciate the fact that this model has a recessed switch, leaving the back end flat, so that it can be stood on end like a candle. That feature will come in handy in the next power outage, as this flashlight is bright enough to light a whole room. The holster and lanyard are nice accessories too. I would definitely choose this flashlight again, and like I said, will buy more of them if this one keeps impressing me like it does right now.My only criticism is that I wish it had been shipped in a box, rather than an envelope. FourSevens uses nice, attractive packaging, but it arrived with the product box slightly smushed. It would be better for someone giving it as a gift if the packaging were intact.Update 1/21I quickly found that I couldn't keep my husband's hands off my new flashlight, so I purchased him another one just like it. After inspecting it carefully, it is virtually indistinguishable from mine, so the above comments still all apply. All except the last one, that is, as this time it was sent in a proper shipping box, along with other items. Now I will just have to find a way to label them "His" and "Hers". ;-)Update 1/14./2017It occurred to me that I should amend this, as my flashlight has sat dead on my desk for the past year. ;( It just stopped working one day. I don't know if it's the LED, the switch or some electronic component. Pity, as I really never used it outdoors, just around the house. I was hoping for this to be the last flashlight I ever purchased, at $55. But alas, it was not to be. I hate to throw it away, as the body is still in perfect shape and looks brand new. I keep hoping I will figure out what's wrong and fix it for a few bucks (no, it's not the batteries. hahaha!)
