.co.uk For a few years from 1979 onwards, Britain's decaying holiday camps played host to some of the hippest dance events ever, the Soul Weekenders. From Bognor Regis to Caister, soul fans revelled in weekends of live music that included performances by legends such as George Benson and Marvin Gaye, as well as top DJ sets from the likes of Chris Hill and Froggy. The Greatest 80s Soul Weekender is a collection of the greatest cuts from those monumental weekends, which includes Shalamar ("A Night to Remember"), Dynasty ("I Don't Wanna Be a Freak") and Sister Sledge ("We Are Family"). It's also the era when disco and soul finally "hitched up", at last acknowledging their musical compatibility (as demonstrated by "Boogie Wonderland" and "Let the Music Play"). There's also some surprise but well-chosen selections too, including Colonel Abrams's mid-80s fairground classic "Trapped" and Steve Arrington's silky smooth "Feel So Real". What's more it's easy to hear how the soul music showcased on this collection can be intrinsically linked to the style and form of current R&B and garage sounds. --John Galilee

Trip down memory lane!
All the great soul/dance classic tunes from the 80s on one double CD.I have just about everything on here on vinyl, but bought this for convenience.Even my 14 year old daughter, who usually just makes jokes about us 'old folk' and the old music we listen to, had to eat her words when she asked if we could put the majoriy of the tracks onto her phone for her to listen to on her way to/from school.Timeless classics well worth owning.

OK
More jazz funk / house than soul but some good tracks. About 10% unplayable due to jumping - was second hand but was described as very good so a little disappointing. Few people mentioned it so wonder if manufacturing fault. It's OK.

Back in time 80's Soul Music.. Every track a Masterpiece!
the greatest 80's Soul Weekender is exactly that. I had this 2 CD collection in the 80's but lost it. So glad I was able to replace it. Would recommend to anyone who loves the Soul Music from that era 1978 - 1988. Fantastic. Ms. S. Clarke.

Very poor the case is broken the CD itself is all ...
Very poor the case is broken the CD itself is all scratched which is causing it to jump from one song to the next I wish I spent more and got a new one and not a second hand one.

Copy number 2!!
This cd is much loved. This is the second copy as original has been mislaid. Could not be without it and so had to buy it again! Great tracks from a great musical era.
