The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits: Debbie Bliss's Favourite 50 Patterns for Babies and Toddlers

It's True: This Is the Ultimate Book of Baby Knits
This book contains all the knitting patterns you'll need for babies and toddlers, from classic cardigans, pullovers, hats, booties, and blankets, to pants, a bathrobe, and an elegant coat. I've already made several patterns from the book -- they're easier than they look! I might ending up making all of them.Patterns are written out clearly and accurately. Several sizes are included, but you can use smaller needles and yarn (or vice versa) to make any baby size you like. Knit a swatch, measure the gauge, and basic math lets you see what size you'll end up with. If it's too large or too small for the baby you have in mind, change needle and yarn size.I like the variety, not just of designs but also of knitting techniques. Some of us like raglans, some like set-in sleeves. Some like to knit lace and others like cables or texture patterns. Some like Fair Isle and some like to embroider on knitting. Every knitter will find something wonderful in this book.I'm attaching a picture of a finished Baby Shrug and stitch detail from the Matinee Coat -- a couple of my favorite patterns for a baby girl. But there are also plenty of patterns for boys and gender-neutral patterns as well. This book isn't designed for beginning knitters. There are certainly easy patterns in here, but they're written in traditional knitter's code rather than in English, and not all of the patterns are easy. However, the patterns are written out with more detail than many traditional knitting books offer. For example, they generally include instructions for both sides rather than saying, "Reverse shaping for left side."If you have knitted before, you'll be fine with this excellent collection of patterns. One thing you should know: many of the patterns in this book have also been published in other Debbie Bliss collections of baby clothes. I didn't own any of her other baby clothes books, but I've seen others since. Check on Ravelry to see all the patterns if you're concerned about duplication.

Debbie's books are always easy to understand. The pictures are lovely and the patterns are very up-to-date and beautifully presented. I have already finished 2 projects.

Comprehensive Collection
This great new book from Debbie Bliss is a collection of fifty patterns from her other publications for babies and toddlers, which makes it great value for money. There's a good range of projects, from clothing to blankets to toys, and enough variety to ensure beginners and more experienced knitters will find plenty to do. There's an excellent how-to section at the beginning, and a good glossary of knitting terms and abbreviations. If I were going to have just one pattern book for babies, this is the one I'd pick.

YAWN
I really like Debbie Bliss baby patterns but this book was a miss for me. There is very little here for an infant, more for toddlers and not much to get excited about. I was looking for something to impress my best friend for her first grandbaby but nothing in here looked pretty enough. I want to be fair and say that there were some pretty girl pieces but my friend's daughter is having a boy and there just wasn't anything "adorable" here. However, the condition of the book was great, it was well wrapped, and arrived ahead of schedule.

Super book
I like this book because it has many different projects: sweaters, jackets, hats, shoes, blankets, coats, etc. Also because each Project has instructions for several sizes.

Four Stars
A very good book in terms of quality. However it could do with some more variety of patterns.

Must have book!
I got this book out of the library after a quick flick through it. Within half an hour of getting home I had ordered it on Amazon! The designs definitely have a touch of class about them. The pictures are beautiful and text layout is very user friendly. I had just completed one jumper and one matinee coat for my five month granddaughter. So to match, I knitted the 'picot' bootees page 264 ( beautiful and so easy) and the sandals on page 262 ( fabulous... but challenging). 12th row of pattern: Next row [ P next st tog with corresponding st 7 rows below] to end.....WHAT!?Despite being a knitter on and off since I was 18, now 62 I had never come across this before. I own up to it taking me 3 hours to crack it and complete the first sandal but it was so worth it! The finished result could easily sell in a baby boutique for £35/£40.If you are a beginner don't be put off please. Have a good look through this book. I dare you not to want it!
