Samsonite Cruisair DLX Hardside Luggage with Spinner Wheels, Burgundy, Checked-Large 30-Inch

I bought the 21in and the 26in cases.I’m weary of zipper closure luggage. I’m always just waiting for the zipper to fail or for the zipper’s webbing to rip. The fact that this has an aluminum frame and solid aluminum hinges is awesome. So secure feeling. These cases are built really tough.The wheels work great on all kinds of surfaces. Maybe not the best on cobble stones, but this is a matter of physics that effect ALL wheels of this size. These always maneuver great in the many travels I’ve taken them on. The exterior holds up very well to the rigors of checked baggage too.It has a TSA approved three digit combination lock which is cool. It’s not going to deter a professional thief since anybody can get a TSA key. But it does prevent casual snoops and unintended opening of the case.The drawbacks are they do not expand, so what you see is what you get. You also trade some weight for sturdiness. For reference, the 21in is 9 lbs, whereas most comparably sized zippered polycarbonate cases are 7-7.5 lbs. for US domestic travel this isn’t a big deal, but it can make a difference for international travel where the weight restrictions are more limiting.More importantly for the larger checked case size, I’m a bit cautious with the latches and the abuse of luggage handlers, so I also belt the 26in case with a locking nylon strap (through the handle) to ensure the case stays shut. I don’t know if this is necessary or not, but for the low cost of the strap and the invaluable peace of mind, I just do this always on checked bags.All in all I think these are super cases.

H U G E !!! This piece is cavernous, capacious, spacious!! Just be careful not to pack too much to be over the 50lb limit for airlines. We LOVE this bag -- it's solid, SUPER EASY to maneuver -- love all of its features. Some reviews complained about the large open side -- well it's awesome! It's a versatile side -- you can use packing cubes - or not; lay towels flat, roll them, lay jeans flat, or roll them, lay dress shirts flat on their hangers fairly straight, I mean you really have a ton of options -- I cannot see why you could complain about that. So -- to be honest -- my son is using this for Study Abroad for a FIVE WEEK trip (yes he's going to Europe, I'm going to WalMart and Kroger LOL). If he was just travelling from USA to Europe, he would have taken two 24 or 26 inch bags (just like these, hard side, spinner, with FOUR wheels, etc) because US airlines allow TWO checked bags with each bag weight limit of 50 lbs EACH not total combined. But he was going from USA to Germany, then taking a European airlines from Germany to France and that airlines allows only ONE checked bag -- so we had to buy this jumbo bag and pack it carefully to be at or under the 50 lb limit. So there you go -- it is a truly FANTASTIC bag in every way, we chose it specifically after a ton of shopping and comparisons -- well worth what we paid. BE SAFE IN ALL OF YOUR TRAVELS :)

What an awesome piece of luggage! I was curious with this no-zipper style and decided to try it. Lo and behold, it was fantastic not having to deal with zippers. The sturdy frame and closure hold up very nicely as does the material used. Even though there were light scuff marks, they are not noticeable. There were some black marks on some of the surfaces and I used Mr. Clean's erasures and the black marks disappeared. It did remove some of the shine and I thought of using furniture polish and it worked! The luggage looks great. The only (minor) issue I had was opening one of the latches when I reached my destination. The one on the right would not open when I pushed the release button. I then "thumped" the suitcase above the lock and it opened. After that, I had no problems with it. The interior space is fantastic as I was able to pack 4 days' worth of clothing which included 2 men's dress suits. I'm going to order the other sizes (30" and 21") and donate my current set. I'm sold on this style!

I purchased this suitcase for 2 big trips (Scotland and Alaska) within 3 months. On the first trip (Scotland), the suitcase seemed to hold up fairly well. The wheels are great on most straight surfaces, and the handle is very sturdy. The suitcase came through the trip with only a few dings and scrapes to the very sturdy body of this bag. Typical in my eyes, thus I had very high hopes that it would hold up for the second trip as well. However, I seems to have some major issues on the second trip (Alaska) with one of the latches. The right latch seemed to be having some trouble consistently lining up so that it could connect and create a secure hold. I became increasingly concerned during my trip, as we were moving around frequently (unpacking and repacking). I barely made it home with the suitcase, and even ended up having to purchase some straps to assist in securing the bag, as I had very little faith in the right latch. I'll be contacting Samsonite to get a refund or at least an exchange for a bag with a zipper!

I purchased the Cruiser DLX Hardside Spinner 26" because I only had a 29" Samsonite other style and carry on which I had a lot of trouble opening the zipper on the other Samsonite carryon. I loved the DLX because of the clasps and also it was JUST BARELY able to fit under the bed in our stateroom on a Celebrity cruise. My 29" other Samsonite DID NOT fit under the bed as well as my husband's Samsonite 1910 style. The outside did get scuffed up a little bit but not too bad. The color is great. I did not get instructions for TSA lock but I figured it out once we were on board the ship. I love that you can push it with another piece of luggage in front of you but it's a hard push when you're on carpet as in the airport going to and from the baggage carousels and other areas. Maybe in the next year I will purchase the 30" to go with this one but more likely I will wait for the other 'Samsonite to break. As an "oh by the way" comment, my husband's 1910 Samsonite got bent somewhere between the airline (southwest) and the ship. It still closes but there is a gap and I suspect after another trip it may not stay closed. It is 2 years old. We have used it on 1 cruise no airline, and 1 flight the year after to Hawaii.
