Samsung R580 15.6 inch HD Laptop (Intel Core i3-330M, 4Gb, 320Gb, DVDRW, Win 7 Home Premium (Red))

Bought this laptop for my son. We have both been really pleased with it. Easy to set up and the backing up process which you are walked through was simple and straightforward. The colour and glossy finish is excellent and makes it stand out from all the other pretty dull and boring looking laptops currently around. If you tell someone you have bought a 'red' laptop they say seem a bit taken a back, but when anyone has seen it they all say 'Wow'. It is a cool looking machine. The keyboard layout is excellent with good key spacing and good tactile feel to the keys. The laptop comes with a reasonable selection of bundled software. Some was only with a free trial period like Microsoft Office but other stuff like the movie editing software is unrestricted time wise but with limited features but it meets my son's needs perfectly. Some people seem to dislike bundled software but it costs nothing to take a quick look and then uninstall if you don't want it, so to me a selection of bundled software is an added benefit. My one concern I did have was that the high gloss screen would be too reflective. Yes it can give reflections but it really isn't a problem and isn't a distraction during use. Overall we have been very pleased with it and had no problems. I would certainly buy another (may have to as my wife keeps pinching it).

This is great looking laptop, and seemed like a safe choice.There are numerous reviews going around praising this laptop, and the spec is fairly decent.Unfortunately I had an issue with the wireless adapter, it kept on dropping connection despite good signal strengths.I tried re-installing the driver and even went so far as to order a brand new Wireless ADSL Router - problem still remained in fact it got progressively worse.Didn't have a problem with any of my other wireless devices - everything pointed to the laptop.Had no choice but to return it :(This is probably an isolated case - so I wouldn't read too much into this. Just hope yours doesn't suffer from the same problem.

This is a great laptop....super fast, good screen, fantastic keyboard, quick start-up, easy to use. Even the sound isn`t as bad as other reviewers are saying. Has only one major drawback however: The battery life sucks. Barely manage 2 hrs. Need to have it close to a power source. So if you travel a lot, the battery won`t be enough most of the times. Stops it getting 5 stars. If power supply isn`t a problem, then go for this laptop. The red colour isn`t as bright as on some photos, and is actually quite dark. Great in all other departments.

I bought this product from Amazon because it was sold out in stores and I could not source for a lower price from a well-known website.This was bought for my son for his 18th with a view to him going to university. I thought the stylish red cover would suit him. Really pleased with the performance.

The laptop is good - however I had to return the first one shipped.(and that after Amazon Prime took 3 days to deliver as the carrier shipped it to the wrong depot and then couldn't recover it!!)The first one supplied 'corrupted itself' on initialisation -- and then its automatic recovery copy was also corrupted.I needed a Windows 7 disc to reinstall the operating system.These are no longer supplied - as the Samsung recovery process allows you to recover the preinstalled and configured op system.But not in the case described above.Samsung told me it was a microsoft problem - contact them.Microsoft told me that Samsung should supply me with a Windows 7 disc.Samsung said their licence conditions precluded this.Microsoft said not so and offerd to participate in a 3 way tel call to explain to Samsung what they had to do.Samsung said that they didn't have a W7 disc as they install from servers.Stalemate - but a wasted 2 days.I gave up and returned the laptop for a replacement.Product 4 stars, 'service' and helpfulness/inconvenience 1 star

I bought this in early April, but in the i3/4 Gb/500 Gb HD version. Couldn't get it from Amazon at the time: all sold out.I had also recently bought an R530 (from Amazon for my 'elderly' Mum: was highy impressed with that too, and that influenced the decision to go for the R580.Build quality is good, excellent display, comfortable to use, runs cool, and battery life a good 3 hours without trying unduly to conserve energy. Lighter than my old 15" laptop too.A good set of Apps shipped with the machine; one of potentially the best accessory bits is the Samsung Battery Life Extender, which allows you to switch between 80% max charge and 100%: the former is recommended when you're plugged in most of the time.The only drawback was that it shipped with only the 32 bit OS; at the time not all 64 bit drivers were available and I gave up with installation of W7 64 bit (of which I had my own copy) as a consequence. As a result the 32 bit W7 only uses 3 Gb of the installed 4 Gb RAM. I'll try the 64 bit again when Samsung have made it easier to package the 64 bit drivers. The current versions are shipping with 64 bit W7.Nevertheless, performance is very good: positively zippy after my 4 year old dual-core laptop. I skipped Vista completely, but can recommend W7. I'm also running Office Pro Plus 2010, which is streets ahead of Office 2003.

This is a perfect product, it's an ideal desktop replacement, it's my first new laptop for over 8 years and I can see now how much things have moved on, I have set up other new laptops for other people but was fine with my old Toshiba, however, this was beginning to show it's age when browsing modern websites and I had increased its speed by as much as possible. I took the plunge after buying my sister a Samsung Laptop which was about £200 cheaper than this one and I can really see the difference. Her laptop is fine for what she needs it for where I do a lot of Flash Animation and Web Design work and the Samsung fits the bill. I just hope that I get as many good years out of it as I did my last laptop. Oh and Windows 7 is superb. Everything Vista should have been.
