No but the app lets you know all details in real time. Also charts daily, weekly and yearly reading.

I don’t see why not mine works great on my iPhone

Q: Why is Location Service permission necessary for the App to function?

This is a quirk of the Android OS. Bluetooth beacons can be used for determining location so the OS requires the location permission be requested. Not a great design IMHO but so it goes.
