Ubiquiti Amplifi Alien Tri Band WiFi 6 Router Mesh Ready

I was doing a bit of research into mesh routers and this product kept popping up in the top 3 when compared to other mesh systems. I eventually narrowed my search down to the Orbi vs Alien. I chose the Alien as many reviews reported that a house ofmy size (4 bed Semi,1600sq ft) doesn’t really need the Mesh system and the Alien router would cover the whole house without having to purchase the second unit. That, and the fact the Alien router is just a beauty to look at. The Touch screen has loads of cool function you can run off of it. The app is easy and simple to use. It literally took a couple of minutes to set up. Range, strength and reliably has significantly improved compared to my Virgin 4.0 router… and looks so much better in my office next to my consoles. Really happy with this purchase. The Alien router is truly unique and perfect for anyone looking for a router that has decent functionality, is easy to set up and looks cool as F* in the process.

Bought this mesh wifi router to add a bit of range to my existing Alien and setup was super simple, the app found it and you just select "join mesh" and that's it. Coverage seems good and speeds are as expected.

I’ve always been led to believe it is illegal to sell electrical items in the UK without a UK plug , come on Amazon you can do better !! Same day delivery but EU stock , had to go out & buy the correct lead next day making same day delivery pointless

These things are awesome, the connection speed to my laptop is about 3x that of an eero pro 6, but these are only dual band in europe and NOT Triband like amazon says, only the US ones are triband

This is OK, looks great and works OK. Wifi signal isnt the best (I have the mesh point too), and stability is also questionable especially if you upgrade firmware to 3.6.1 - best to roll back and things will be stable. I dont think Alien fully check the firmware before releasing as everytime you upgrade things get worse.

I have used the Amplifi HD router and mesh points for a few years now, and they are superb. I have recommended them to multiple people, friends and family, they are faultless and no wifi dead spots. But I wanted them to be faster to the new Wifi6 standard, without hard wiring my house. So I thought I'd give this a go. All the reviews, and the specs on Unifi website, suggests this would be at least twice as powerful on it's own, as the Amplifi HD mesh with the two points. Let me tell you - it IS NOT!... If the unit is in the same room, on the same floor - it is blazingly fast, like 2 gigabits fast, dropping to 1gbps in the next room. But then it drops dramatically, to almost unusable speeds, on another floor or another room away. My house is typical British standard, breeze block inner walls with brick outer. Granted they are solid interior walls so maybe this is where the problem lies. But when tested against the Amplifi HD with mesh points (similar price and now 4 years or more old), it does not compare for range and stability. I have numerous 'smart' devices around the house, with one in particular being on the opposite outside wall to control a pond waterfall. This router would not stay connected to it. It's on 2.4Ghz band, so should be easy for this to connect to. My advice, if you are coming from an Amplifi HD with 2 mesh points, buy the dual kit (with another mesh), as this device on its own cannot compete, unless you live in a tent!

Everything seemed to work fine for a time, the updates made things worse compared to when we first got it. Some updates improved it some made it worse on the range/speed. The app was easy to use and set up. However the problem is it no longer works as of today in jan 22. There is no light indicators it switchs on, and no signal anymore. No real cause, the reset doesn't work either, customer support doesn't reply either on the website, contacted them early in the morning and i waited with no response. I paid premium and i can't seem to even get a response on how to fix it or if i can even have a replacement. The router has been it's place for months with no movement. At first i thought it could be because it overheated? But then i realized the weather is cold since it's winter. So there isn't really any real cause of it's malfunction. Unlucky dud that i got? Or is it a flaw? Wondering if other reviewers will be experiencing the same in time.

The unit isn't very powerful. It also emits high thermal energy making it thermally very hot.

Der AmpliFi Alien ist schon etwas "Besonderes" und ein Nischenprodukt mit besonderen Fähigkeiten, aber auch nicht für jedermann geeignet. Optisch ein Hingucker, technisch und leistungsmäßig "state of the art", aber ich war kurz davor, ihn zurückzuschicken... habe ihn dann doch behalten und bin mit dem AmpliFi Alien sehr zufrieden. Aber der Reihe nach. Meine IT-Infrastruktur sieht wie folgt aus: - Fritzbox im Bridge-Modus (exponierter Host) - UniFi USG - eigener Router mit Proxmox VM mit Cloudkey etc. - und ein Cisco DHCP, DNS und NTP Server Insgesamt ca. 40 Geräte, davon 31 mit Wlan verbunden. Eines sollte man vorweg beachten, auch wenn es von Ubiquiti kommt, ist es nicht mit den hauseigenen Produkten kompatibel, sondern nur und ausschließlich mit der Alien Produktreihe. Das bedeutet, dass man z.B. kein Mesh mit anderen APs aufbauen kann... was eigentlich mein Ziel war, oder in die Cloudkey Serverumgebung integrieren kann.... das geht alles nicht. Diese "Besonderheiten" findet man nur im "Kleingedruckten", wenn man die Anleitung auf der Herstellerseite genau studiert! Die Einstellmöglichkeiten sind sehr rudimentär... keine Auswahl eines eigenen DHCP-, DNS- oder NTP-Servers... usw. alles nicht einstellbar, der Alien will alles selbst verwalten .... daher wohl auch der Name Alien. So kam es, dass bei der ersten Inbetriebnahme zwar alle meine WLan-Geräte eingebunden wurden, aber mein DHCP-Server etc. ignoriert wurde und der Alien seine eigenen IP's vergeben hat... und so funktionierte z.B. mein LoT-Netzwerk nicht mehr etc. pp. Für den "normalen" Benutzer ist das ein Segen... Man muss wenig bis gar nichts einstellen (Wlan, Daten, WAN etc. schon), aber im Grunde ist das fast alles, was man einstellen kann.. Nun dachte ich mir: Schade, ein schönes und leistungsfähiges Gerät, aber für den angedachten Verwendungszweck mangels Einstellmöglichkeiten nicht einsetzbar. Als ich mich dann noch einmal auf der Herstellerseite umsah, fand ich den "Bridge-Modus", der den Router in einen (mehr oder weniger) AP-Modus versetzt. Gesagt, getan, Bridge Mode eingeschaltet und siehe da, meine WLan IT Infrastruktur lief wie gewohnt, nun mit einem, und das möchte ich wirklich betonen, extrem starken Access Point. Die Abdeckung ist phänomenal... über 3 Stockwerke Stahlbeton, bis in den Keller und 20 Meter in den Garten ist alles abgedeckt. Es dauert etwa einen halben Tag, bis der Alien alle Wifi-Geräte auf die richtigen Frequenzen und die bestmögliche Übertragungsrate eingestellt hat, aber danach ist das Wifi-Netz ein Traum... Extrem schnell und extrem stabil. Bis heute, nach einem Monat Betrieb, keine Ausfälle, keine Probleme und immer noch perfekt wie am ersten Tag. Sogar einige LoT's, die bei mir von Anfang an sehr "gespenstisch" waren und immer Probleme mit der Datenübertragung hatten, laufen im Dauerbetrieb 1A. Wie schon am Anfang geschrieben, ist dieses Alien nicht für jedermann geeignet und man sollte sehr genau wissen, wofür man es einsetzen möchte, aber von der Leistung her habe ich noch nie ein so stabiles und leistungsfähiges Wlan gesehen oder erlebt! **************************************************** 10.07.2025: Update nach einem Jahr Betrieb. **************************************************** Seit rund einem Jahr habe ich den Router im Dauerbetrieb und bin nach wie vor sehr zufrieden. Er erledigt seine Aufgabe wie am ersten Tag: tadellos und zuverlässig! In der ganzen Zeit gab es keine Probleme, Aussetzer oder Ähnliches. Alles bestens! Ich würde ihn immer wieder kaufen und kann ihn weiterhin nur wärmstens empfehlen!

No está a la ultimísima pero si te basta con wifi 6 es lo mejor que he tenido. Muy facil de instalar y da todo tipo de indicaciones cuando algo va mal.

Every since getting this everything loads faster and my ping to Sydney on a net gear nighthawk r8000 was 21-22 now it’s 15-16 which is crazy considering when directly plugged into the nbn box to the pc it’s also 21-22 ping so this router helps for gamers that’s for sure !
