Different, more modern than I would like and I did not see the boats that were featured in either Vanity Fair of Aficionado magazine that I first heard about this gentleman. Needless to say he is 81 and still the most premier designer. When I finish I will be donating to the library but I will share with all my mature friends first.!

One of the best books on an interior designer. Crisp photography, oversize format and minimal text make for a visual feast of beautiful and unique spaces. Nothing chi-chi or clichéd and everything carefully composed without being contrived. Catroux is a master of design.

Francois Catroux ist, obwohl bereits weit über 80, noch immer einer der einflussreichsten interior designer unserer Zeit. Sein Einfluss ist ohne Zweifel im Schaffen anderer interior designer spürbar, die seinen Stil, zeitlose Eleganz basierend auf zumeist neutralen Farben, schwarz und weiß, in Kombination mit modernen bzw modernistischen Elementen zu kombinieren fortführen. Catroux’ Gespür für Räume, deren Geschichte aber auch für deren Bewohner ist sichtbar in jedem einzelnen seiner, in diesem Buch vorgestellten, Projekte. Zeitgebundene Einflüsse sind sichtbar, aber abstrahiert man davon, bleibt am Ende eine elegante Grundlinie die in jede Zeit passt. Catroux war Zeitgenosse und tw auch befreundet bzw bekannt mit anderen Design Größen seiner Zeit, nicht zuletzt YSL und Diane v Fürstenberg. Seine Kreationen sind wie geschaffen dafür, der Pariser Mode ihren Rahmen zu geben.Die Textbegleitung ist knapp, informativ und daher vollkommen ausreichend. Das Buch eine Inspirationsquelle, die hilft den Blick zu schärfen und stellt einen unverzichtbaren Begleiter für den Einstieg in die Welt des interior design dar.Wer sich an eigene Projekte wagen will, sollte neben diesem Buch aber auf andere, praktischere, zurückgreifen.

Francois Catroux, der Ehemann von Betty Catroux, sie war widerum die Muse vom großen Yves Saint Laurent. Alles stylisch, ausgezeichnete Fotografien mit tollen Ideen die noch heute festen Bestand haben.
