Powerful Textbook. Demonstrates a firm grasp of scientific theory, research, and applications of evolution.
Excellent book on evolutionary biology written by an engaging, knowledgeable, and thought-provoking professor in the Ecology & Evolution Department at Stony Brook University. The writing style is on par with what you will read in the scientific literature, which is exemplified by the use of in-text citations of the format (<authors' last names> <year of work's publication>). However, this does not subtract from the intelligibility or readability of the text, especially since the topics are often put into human and social perspectives. The information in this text is very reliable and well cited. Virtually nothing is asserted, and when speculations are in play they are appropriately named as such. This is one of few textbooks that will not lead you astray with misinformation.Note: Required for BIO 354, Evolution, at SBU.

Evolution
A textbook for undergraduate studies. It presents the theory of evolution in modern style and up-to-date. Not a lot of math in it, but every student of biology should know that the study of evolution today is math-heavy. Given that it's a textbook, you should already have a basic grasp of evolutionary/biological concepts. This book is not for the layman. But if you want (as a layman) increase your understanding of the subject beyond popularized versions of it, this is an excellent book.
