Perfect!
I needed to reinstall my MacBook Air operating system as had to replace an SSD that had died. It couldn’t see my Wi-Fi so the only option was to use something like a network adapter and I figured that the Thunderbolt adapter would be the most efficient. The only issue I met was that I ordered the wrong network lead after following the link of a lead featured under ‘frequently purchased with’, mistakenly thinking it was compatible. That connector was too large for both the modem and the adapter and was returned. I then purchased a cat 6 lead (CSL - 2m CAT6 Ethernet LAN Cable - High-Speed Patch Cord - Gigabit RJ45 Network Lead). All connected and the setup of the new ssd in Internet Recovery and re-installation of OS following an Ifixit downloadable guide worked like a dream and I again have a fully functioning MacBook Air.

FASTER INTERNET!
Okay, so. Who is this product for? This adapter is perfect for those who want to get the fastest internet speeds possible to their Mac, and those who want to be able to access the internet as there is no Wi-Fi/ the signal is very weak. In my case, most of the time I need this cable as one of the essential things to pack when transporting my Mac, whether that be to a lecture or for just having for when I’m in a location where the Wi-Fi signal in my room is weak. This cable proved to be more useful than I primarily anticipated. This is because I first purchased the adapter to obtain a more secure internet speed, in comparison to running on Wi-Fi, which worked a treat and I can now have good internet speeds like they should be when I’m on the right side of the house. But this was also useful as a cheeky way to get around my XI form’s Wi-Fi, where I could then access certain websites that were otherwise blocked on the Wi-Fi, such as YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud and so on.The adapter provides a male thunderbolt 2 connection on one side, so any Mac’s with a thunderbolt female available will be able to use this adapter, to an Ethernet female. In order to connect to the internet, you will have to provide your own Ethernet cable so that you can plug it into the female Ethernet connection on the adapter to your internet source, whether this be a modem or internet switch or anything else that you use to plug in your Ethernet cable.Do I think that this product was worth the purchase? Yes. Do I think it’s worth its money? No. However, it seems although it seems contradicting, I would buy the product again in a heartbeat if I lost it, but It’s not worth the money I paid which was £25. There are other options on the market that sell this adapter much cheaper, that I’m sure does the same thing. I would question whether the build quality is as good as Apple’s adapter and if the internals will provide the same quality of internet speeds, as I believe some adapters, like modems can be not as powerful and not provide the same speeds even if using the same internet and Ethernet cable.Although there are cons or should I say con of the price. It is a solid product and something worth looking into if you want a better internet connection to your Mac if it doesn’t have an Ethernet port available.Any questions, just ask!If this was helpful, please let us know :)Check out our Amazon account: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pdp/profile/A2RUAK1VU25D496Do you want your products to be reviewed?Business: TechNerds.Reviews@gmail.comReviewed by Will

Does the job
If WiFi is unavailable or slow or you want to connect to a network attached device (a Time Machine backup disk, for example), back in the olden days you would plug an ethernet cable directly into your laptop. Nowadays of course laptops are too slim to fit a chunky 1990s-style ethernet socket, so you need this adaptor.However... you can get a generic ethernet to USB adaptor for less, but that would (1) use up a USB socket and (2) be limited by USB maximum bandwidth of 625 megabytes/sec (from Wikipedia), which is somewhat less than Thunderbolt 2's 20 Gigabits/sec (from system report). But then perhaps neither of these is really a problem - my 2015 MacBook Pro has two rarely used USB sockets, and 625 Mb/s is still faster than any domestic broadband connection and most LANs, and probably up there with most disk write speeds unless you have something really fancy (we would probably be talking about SSDs, a high-end NAS or professional video equipment). Some have reported ethernet-USB 3.0 interfaces unreliable, but that's entirely anecdotal.Just to be clear, this is a Thunderbolt 2 adaptor which fits in a Mini DisplayPort (also called Mini DV) on my 2015 MacBook Pro. Some reviews have highlighted the fact that newer Macs support Thunderbolt 3 via their USB-C connectors, and given 1-star ratings based this not being clear in the product information, which seems a bit harsh to me but that's the Internet for you.Anyway this is the most direct way to connect a MacBook Pro or similar to a network, and it does the job perfectly well.

Good
This was good for what I needed it for but it felt like a lot to spend for what I needed it for, apple always has you with adapters and add ons for devices , so can’t complain too much if you want to have certain functions

Really glad I paid the extra and bought an apple accessory.
I have a 2014 13 Macbook Pro. Bought a Powerline (ethernet through the house electrical circuit) with it as I got fed up with wifi dropping out. I needed this give me a ethernet socket on the mac.I have in the past bought none Apple adaptors (display port to VGA that sort of thing) and have always found them to be temperamental. Buy cheap buy twice.Plugged this into my mac and worked straight away, no drives, no waiting, out of the box and internet 5 seconds later.Been working from home for a week now and had not any problems which is a massive improvement on realiablity. I noticed a good couple of megabytes quicker, using a powerline and this adaptor on an internet speed test when compared to the wifi. Will update with any issues.

Great Quality, Apple Price.
The quality you expect from Apple. As with other users, I wanted to make use of the bandwidth of Thunderbolt and keep my USB ports free but there are no third party Thunderbolt to Ethernet that I could find, so I bit the bullet and purchased this. As with anything Apple, you pay for a premium, but the quality comes with this. Only time will tell how well this item holds up, but so far, very impressed. As noted with other users, this adaptor does not come with the Link/Act lights usually found on a network port.
