Just a beast of a cpu. Can munch through multithreaded tasks brilliantly and a great performer for gaming. Now let me stop you there. ''Great performer for gaming'' Yes that is true. I have played all the latest games on it and getting a solid 60+ frames on ultra and above without the cpu even breaking a sweat. Yes a 7700k is a brillant chip for gaming but for how long. Games are slowly utilizing more cores and threads so this will pay of in the long run and now intel have started hex core and above cpu's in there main line up on there x299 boards it will force devs and game manufactures to utilize that technology so its winner winner chicken dinner. You need to look at the games out there and work out for your self what frame rate you want to play out and what resolution. Look at the bench marks and the 7700k is levelling or beating this cpu on some titles but look at the bench marks a little closer and specificaly look at 2k and above.. Those games the ryzen was lagging behind on now suddenly its matching or beating the 7700k simple due to more cpu power needed for higher res and this cpu can delivery it. Its only going to get better and better for this cpu.

For £170 this thing is a monster!
As the title says, this CPU is a monster for the price! I currently have mine clocked to 4Ghz and it is beast on the desktop and in Games. This is a fantastic CPU, definitely worth taking a peak if you're wanting to start in PC Gaming and not have to pay ridiculous prices that Intel are offering. This CPU is super close in terms of performance to the i7 7700k and half the price! Easy to install and easy to control with the help of the Ryzen Master software where you can Tweak your custom or premade 'gaming' preset which clocks the CPU up to 4Ghz for you without the worry of voltages and timings on your RAM. Now this CPU won't be churning out games on Max settings but I've been playing majority of my beefy titles like GTAV, Watchdogs 2, Witcher 3, AC Origins and all on Very High settings paired with my 980Ti with either MSAA or MSAAx2 - MSAA with maybe 2 or 3 frames dropped here and there - MSAAx2 with around maybe 4 or 6 frames dropped, so it's definitely playable if you want to get a little better quality but the regular MSAA is your best bet if you want to play Very High settings with 60fps 98% of the time 👌🏻

Bit of a disappointment
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X a lot of the Pro's and Cons have already been written all over the Internet about this CPU, it's quirky and a bit of a gamble as to what Ghz you can get it to run at without crashes, mine runs at a mere 3.40 Ghz which I'm not exactly ecstatic about...

Review for AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
Review for AMD Ryzen 7 1700X First one i bought was used, thought i would save myself a few quid but found it was covered in thermal paste and worst was dead. Returned it for a brand new one. New one worked fine. The CPU does NOT come with a cooler. Its just the CPU and a sticker in the box. In use the CPU is very nippy. Can’t say I have had any slowdowns or stability issues. I use it for office work, watching films and encoding videos. It really excels at encoding videos. Compared to my other two PCs. e.g. encoding 45 minute video from x264 1080p to x265 (HEVC) 720p in handbrake my old AMD A10 5700 would average 10-15fps and take about 70-100 mins my i7 Lynnfield overclocked to 3GHz averages 20 fps takes about 60 mins the 1700x at stock speed runs at 55-60 fps takes about 20 mins

Ryzen 7 1700X
I was torn between getting a ryzen 1800x and a 1700x but a little research revealed that the two cpus are basically identical with exception to the difference in their default clock speeds respectfully (a small margin which gives the 1800X a little bit more headroom when overclocking frequencies come into play) but in the long run the differences/similarities senario reminds me of the AMD FX8350 vs FX9590 senario where despite the fx9590 being a somewhat faster than the fx8350, the fx8350 could be overclocked to the point that it would match or at least make the speed difference between the two seem insignificant when comparing the two. The price difference between the two ryzen 7 cpus was a bit under £100 so I went with the 1700X and have no regrets whatsoever. I stuck the cpu in an asus rog crosshair hero 6 and reused an AM3 backplate from an old asus m3n-ht motherboard I had lying around to mount a corsair H100i v2 liquid cooler and voila! an impressive monster which when coupled with some decent corsair grade 2400/3200 ddr4 ram and it's the business. The cpu was delivered on time and as described when ordered: new and in mint condition.

An excellent CPU
As with most CPU's etc.. you're fced wit the silicone lottery.. My CPU top's out at 3.8Ghz I couldn't push it more.. (perhaps I could if I was more experenced). I wasn't prepared to fry my CPU. I got a shop in my town to buld my PC. I couldn't comment on how easy it was to install and set up. I use my PC for gaming and streaming most of the time. It handles the latest titles with ease. Well worth the money even now the 2700 is out.. This CPU will be a bargain.. buy it.

Disappointed it did not come with a cooler
Disappointed it did not come with a cooler. That information should be in the product description not in the question section. Everything else was fine.

Excellent piece of engineering! 8 cores 16 Threads CPU at very affordable price, especially when computer parts are in shortage. Easily overclockable to 4.1GHz at 1.35V. This thing is gonna overtake the Zen 2, 3700 at stock speed for half the price! Highly recommended, especially when it has entered the price point below 120USD, new from Amazon. A direct installation on MSI X470 Carbon.

I got this on sale, and only been using it a week or so. I must say its impressive how far AMD has come since its last generation. There was nothing from Intel that could beat this in price and performance. The motherboard i bought with it was the "GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3" which was on sale for just over 100 dollars. Just amazing value here. Similar Intel motherboard and cpu would have set me back almost double the cost and had no noticeable gains for me. I got this to replace an old 2600k cpu. So far its literally twice as fast in benchmarks i've run on it compared to my 2600k that was overclocked to 4.6ghz.... and its 3 times faster than my 8 core bulldozer cpu i had. But its single threaded performance is just slightly better over the 2600k, but still good enough that you could easily game on this unless you are a 144/200hz gamer. Someone running 60 to 75hz will easily hit those framerates with this. Likely over 100fps in most games if they use the threads. Unless a game is horribly optimized and a complete cpu hog that only runs on 1-2 threads, this cpu should run games good. But i'm actually using this cpu for mainly heavily threaded applications and won't be gaming on it much. Comparing it with the 2600k i7, i did a power test on it, and it uses about 25-30 watts less power at idle than my 4.6ghz overclocked 2600k. I assume it uses over 60-80 watts less power than my bulldozer cpu but i didnt test it directly to it. Since it was the 1700x I got, it didn't come with a cooler, so i bought a Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 to cool it. It works well, the temps keep the 1700x at 31-32c at idle, and 42c at 30% cpu usage, and 63-64c at 100% usage (older version of prime95 was used to max cpu, 20 min test). I think one thing to look out for is VRM temps on these ryzen motherboards, they get really hot. At 100% cpu usage i noticed my vrm temp hit a max of around 112c. But when i put a small 80mm fan above the heatsink of the VRM, dropped the temps to 65c under the same load. But under mild load the vrm won't hit 112c, so this all depends on how long your cpu will be hitting 100% load and how long you want your capacitors on your motherboard to survive. A simple fan above the heatsink gives you a lot of cooling on it and makes you feel safer by cutting those temps in half. Fortunately the motherboard i got let me monitor those temps and fix the problem easily with some airflow. So i'm happy with this cpu, if you can get it on sale its a steal. This cpu can do everything i need, and am looking forward to what AMD can do with other ryzen cpus in the future. I haven't tried to overclock this at all and probably won't since i'm getting enough performance from it. From what i heard you can only overclock them up to 4ghz or so, and its hard to know if its worth the extra power usage for small gains, i'd have to look into it further.
