Q: Can I use 3M mounting tape to mount this directly to a surface?

Yes, that is possible. I ended up using a ram mount and cup holder. As long as the phone is not too big and car rides smooth I believe the 3m tape would work.

Q: Is this magnet strong enough to hold a device that does not use a Quad Lock case but has a metal disk on the back of it?

I would say no. It designed to use the socket style contact as well as magnetic contact. Any other case would probably just slide off

Q: Is this compatible with the quad lock belt clip?

The magnet isn’t strong enough for that kind of movement. It would fall off. I wouldn’t recommend it. But no its not compatible. They use different mounting methods
