Long term hair removal at home with Rio Forever Free IPL
--------------------------------------------------------
The Forever Free Intense Pulsed Light hair remover uses the
latest Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to give long term
hair removal and to achieve satin smooth, hair free skin, without
the hassle of waxing, epilating or shaving. Placed against the
skin, gentle pulses of intense light are directed at the hair
follicle to disable the hair root without affecting the
surrounding area. The hair follicle is disabled as a result of
lasting damage to the hair root. Regular s result in
permanent hair reduction. The Rio Forever Free has a
area of 20 mm x 10 mm, treating up to 70 hairs (based on
of facial hair). The is very quick, for
example it only takes a couple of minutes to treat the underarm
area. Periodic s every four to six weeks are required to
ensure that there is no hair regrowth. IPL hair removal is ideal
for fast and efficient long term results, for use on the legs,
arms, underarms, bikini line, back, chest and certain areas of
the face within the area illustrated by the white dotted line
(below right), leaving your skin beautifully smooth and without a
hair in . The Rio Forever Free should not be used around the
eyes or on the lips. The Rio Forever Free IPL hair remover can be
used safely on the face within the area illustrated by the dotted
line
Not all skin types are suitable for IPL
---------------------------------------
The Rio Forever Free IPL hair remover is suitable for fair skin
through to olive and tanned skin types. For to be
effective the hair needs to be darker than the surrounding skin.
The Forever Free is not suitable for tanned or dark skin tones,
for example, those of Afro-Caribbean, black African, Indian or
Pakistani decent. Even if your skin tone appears to be suitable
on the skin tone chart below, do not use if close relations
(parents/grandparents) have skin tones as described above as the
process may not work. IPL is also not suitable for red, light
blonde, grey or white hair. Best results are on pale skin with
dark hair. Different power levels are sometimes required on
different areas. Each area should be tested for the appropriate
maximum power level.
IPL is only suitable for certain skin tones
How to use the Rio Forever Free IPL hair remover
------------------------------------------------
Carry out a patch test prior to and wait 24 hours to
monitor skin reaction. Treat different areas on increasing power
levels. If you feel any discomfort, the previous power level is
the maximum power level you should use. This patch test will
confirm the maximum power level for your skin type.
Before you start, shave the area to be treated. This ensures that
the light energy goes directly to the hair root and avoids hair
burning on the surface.
Turn the key clockwise to the ON position to unlock and enter the
security code. Place the wand over the area you wish to treat.
Ensure all four skin sensors are in contact with the skin (you
may need to apply gentle pressure). The blue ‘ready’ lights will
illuminate. Press and hold the button on the wand. This
initiates the flash and you may feel a slight warming
of the area. The blue lights will go out after the
flash and the unit will also self-check after each flash. Move
the wand to the next area. When moving the wand to the next area,
the skin sensors must be lifted off the skin.
As a guide to the area, a small indentation mark will
be left from pressing the wand down on the skin. When moving the
wand use these marks, building up a grid-like pattern to ensure
complete coverage. A white eyeliner pencil may also help by
outlining areas to be treated.
The timing for follow on s is not critical. Initially,
s at two week intervals is recommended, although some
people like to treat the area every week or even every other day
to start with to clear any visible hair, while others opt for
just once a month.
What to expect
--------------
During IPL , most people experience a warming of the
skin. Slight similar to that of minor sunburn may be
felt if used on too high a power level, or if the area has not
been shaved. Men undergoing experience greater
discomfort, as male body hair is generally thicker, however the
sensation quickly disappears.
IPL can be used on the face, underarms and bikini line After the
there will usually be no perceptible change in your
skin. A slight redness may occur but will normally fade over 24
hours. There may be some localised redness around the hair
follicle which is quite normal. However, if any redness or
inflammation remains after 24 hours, this would indicate you have
selected too high a power level for your skin type. Please refer
to the patch test information above.
FAQ about IPL
-------------
After IPL hair removal, is there anything to avoid?
---------------------------------------------------
Sun exposure or deep tanning should be avoided for at least 48
hours. If the skin is exposed use a sunscreen. Also avoid using
abrasive s or skin peeling s. Avoid swimming in
chlorinated water or using a hot tub for 48 hours. The chlorine
in the water can result in itchiness.
Is there any after-care routine I should follow?
------------------------------------------------
If you wish, you can apply an un-perfumed soothing lotion, an
ice pack or wet towel to cool the treated areas. Rio recommends
not using soap on the treated areas for 24 hours. Take care to
keep the treated area particularly clean for three days. When
treating the underarms, avoid using antiperspirant deodorant for
two to three days. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure for 48 hours.
What is the difference between IPL and a laser?
-----------------------------------------------
There are two big differences between lasers and intense pulsed
light. Generally IPL covers a much larger area than the
relatively small spot with lasers and therefore
s of larger areas are much quicker. The other difference
is the wavelength of light produced. Lasers produce light with a
specific wavelength while IPL uses a broad spectrum of
wavelengths. This limits IPL to specific skin types.
Are there any side effects?
---------------------------
As with all hair removers which use light energy, there may be
slight reddening of the skin after use or lightening of the skin
in patches. They should both disappear within 24 hours. IPL
should not be used over tattoos, moles, blemishes, s or open
sores, and photosensitive skin.
How many s will I need?
--------------------------------
Long term hair removal with IPL is generally considered to be
effective after a minimum of six s over a period of 6
months. This varies from person to person and depends on the area
you are treating. Initially with each you will notice a
gradual thinning of hair in the treated area. To maintain hair
free skin repeat the every four to six weeks or as
required.
Can I use other hair removal methods between s?
--------------------------------------------------------
Because IPL needs a hair to be present in the
follicle, hair removal methods which pluck the hair, such as
waxing, epilators and tweezing are not suitable for use between
s. Bleaching hairs is also not suitable as it removes
the pigment and renders IPL ineffective. Shaving,
microdermabrasion discs and cream depilatories are ideal for use
between s.
