Exactly what I needed
It does exactly what I hoped. A brief set up on the converter to set the time/date, plugged in my flash drive (new 256gb amazon basics one, $20), connected very easily to my VCR with rca cables (included), plugged in the hdma out to tv to watch these antique home movies for the family, a quick "play" on the VCR and "record" on the converter, and it worked! Very easy and intuitive. I see it does much more, but the stated vcr to mp4 conversion is all I needed.

Compact and Convenient Analog Converter
The Unit is nice and compact with a built in screen, all the buttons are on top and easy to access with the plugs all on the sides allowing for easy setup and stream line operation. This unit will take in Composite Video and S-Video plus of course stereo audio, along with the Line In/Out and Mic In ports for Audio capturing only. I was thrilled with the S-Video since a lot of devices don't have S-Video inputs and all of my old Analog equipment has S-Video outputs. S-Video is MUCH better than composite since S-Video is the Processing and Transfer of the Gamma Image and Chroma Image separately giving you better contrast. The Upscale on the HDMI output is nice allowing you to connect this unit to a TV and watch in real time while capturing the video from your analog device. HOWEVER, the HDMI output and the built-in screen do NOT function at the same time. You can either have a HDMI TV connected or you are using the built-in screen, NOT Both at the same time. This unit has a built-in Menu for setup, basic settings like time/date, Resolution Bit rate, Input Volumes HDMI output Volume, etc.The Resolution setting is a slight issue since if you want to encode your Analog video in "HD," the only resolution is 1920x1080 which is problematic since that is a 16x9 format and I want to maintain my 4x3 format of my Analog video. Really this unit should have the "HD" resolution be 1440x1080 to keep my 4x3 format. So your choices are 640x480, "Auto" and 1920x1080. I found that "Auto" encodes the video at 720x480.Issues:The Unit has a decent Time-Base Corrector however is the video becomes too unstable (very common on VHS), this unit's software can lockup and then you have to start your video all over again. The way you know that the unit has faulted is the Record Time stops counting.Another issue is that the unit will not create an image when the incoming signal is too unstable, meaning when you are Fast-Forwarding on a VHS tape, you can't see where you are on the tape until you play the tape at normal speed.Lastly, this unit will record on many different formats, however make sure you format the Thumb drive or SD card in a computer before you record video. This unit does NOT have a built-in Format function. If the format is corrupted, the Unit will act like it's recording, but then you'll find that the video files are corrupt and you'll have NO usable video. I suggest format all Thumb drives and SD cards in windows NTFS format for better stability when using this unit.Overall, this unit is a very decent and convenient encoder, great for on the spot family viewing parties of old home movies.

It works
This little unit is tasked with digitizing all of my 8mm home movies from over 20 years. So far about half done over a TB of material and it still works well. Format your SD or USB in exfat and you can have files longer that 4gb without breaks, but if you can't free software from Cloner Alliance will stitch them together for you seamlessly. Software is also included to trim your files. Software is free from their website. So far so good. And it keeps the original aspect ration, which is a must. The files are upscaled to 720 and as I said the final product very nice.

Great item to have to save vhs recordings to usb. Easy to use. Display isn't too bad. Just hook everything up and let it convert it. Has remote too. Now I can edit the usb on my computer. Good value. Works well.

Exactly what i needed to resurrect old video tapes
I am so happy to have this. It really does a great job in transferring to digital. I don't need a ver anymore or a tape adapter. I can directly plug my old video camera right into this and record everything over. My cam has s-video as well as composite but for back then which was before HDMI, s-video was the best sharpness.Everything connects super easy and you can see everything on the screen and start and stop recording right on the converter. There's no pc computer needed so there's no software needed either. The only thing you need is a high capacity usb or mini usb stick/card. It records right to the flash memory. Once i record it all i can then put it on my computer and do further editing with software.Comes with a remote control as well and you can also play the videos that you recorded to the memory sticks right to your tv via the HDMI out (its only an out for HDMI).I haven't tried yet, but if you have an old walkman cassette player or even cd player, you can connect via the audio plugs to record off of cassettes....i have a ton of those when i used to record 2am dj mix shows back in the 1990's. Some songs aren't available on mp3. But this can be used if there is a special recording from a loved one etc. This works so great and I can finally share all the crazy videos i made back in the 1990's and not have to pay $$$ to get them converted if you can find anyone that still does it. I can do it all myself!!!
