If you don't want to wade through the decrepit nature of this man, you can start here and see a side of his that actually rings true in many American hearts. This is an old time country/folk album with the bite of Allin's thoughts and lifestyle injected to make it something special and rebellious.Now, hearing this guy yell and shout and poo on stage is okay for some people, not so for others. This is the clean way to get into GG Allin. It actually has quality to it. It throws away the careless excess and juvenile behavior for something you might think plays out with some sincerity. Pick Me Up on this version is a singalong done in a low-fi setting that is pretty cool. The songs before the first interview are all more produced, with the songs after bringing up the bookend to Outskirts of Life done in the low-fi setting.It would have been interesting to hear a produced version of Pick Me Up for sure. But I bet GG thought it sounded too traditional or something. At any rate it was an interesting listen for sure. 4.5 stars.

Great CD, a bit of the country/acoustic side of GG. A must have.

Great album, my favorite by him. so good.

GG made dangerous music and even more dangerous stage acts. He might be punk, country, or garage rock. Whatever you call his music it never had high production values or significant distribution. Like Sid Vicious, Lenny Bruce, Jim Morrison, and a host of other self-destructive performers he eventually achieved death by heroin. But there are excellent songs on this effort and his music is catchy, the lyrics shocking. This is GG's best effort and is an important part of the history of outlaw music.I believe this is a must own album. If you like Hank III you'll probably like this. If you like Nick Cave's Murder Ballads you might like this. If you like Johnny Thunders you might like this. If you haven't heard of them but you like John Denver, Neil Diamond, and the Carpenters then this is not likely for you.

One of the best country styled GG Allin cds I've bought.

On this release GG brings back the bad and dangerous to country music.GG is the perfect person to sing of life's hard times and the low road of sorrow, suffering, drinking and hard living.Stand out track is the cover version of Warren Zevon's 'Carmelita', which in my opinion, is better than the original.Musically it sounds a bit like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash mixed with the truck driving music of Dave Dudley.

This album would have to rank at the top of my list of favorite recordings. The "Criminal Quartet" added a wonderful touch to it as well.

All's I can say is...Wow.

It is like G.G. drank a pint of Hank Williams piss, and wrote this album. Amazing is the only thing to say. For all 7 tracks this album goes hard with a bite and sting that you cannot find any place else.

Too bad it didn't make HATED and too bad he didn't live long enough to hook up w/ David Allen Coe.

I tried getting into this album, and besides it being mislabeled as having an extra track or two, just not for me.
