The Hedonist's Guide to The Galaxy
This book is brilliant, delicious and effective. I am a foodie. I love to cook and I love to eat. i also love horse riding, and heavy body weight is not nice for the horse. Dilemma. I have dieted before, but it delt like a deprivation. Lettuce and cottage cheese is so much not me. And then i came across The Hairy Dieters. I bought this book and within 24 hours had ordered 2 more in The Hairy Dieters series. The recipes are beautiful. Their coronation chicken (pictured, in blue bowl) is better than the original Winkfield recipie. There are recipies for baking and for puddings. The cranberry, orange and chocolate biscotti (middle picture) are heavenly and 52calories a biscotti. What's not to like? It's a recipe book, not a diet book. It does have good advice, based on The Hairy Dieters own experience and backed by NHS evidence. But the book is low calorie after low calorie delicious recipie. It is about a calorie controlled diet. But it does not tell you what to eat. So if you want soup and pudding rather than a main course, that's what you do. You do have to know how to toast an almond and chop herbs. This book is very much for people who love both cooking and eating. I made myself wait for a week before i reviewed this treasure. I stuck to 1500 calories a day, measuring everthing I cooked, and lost 5lbs in a week. Thank you, Hairy Dieters

I've lost an amazing 9. 4 kg or shall I put it ...
I'm going to put this simply, I got this book about a month ago and at that time I weighed 105 kg. Today 1 month later 94.6 kg. I've lost an amazing 9.4 kg or shall I put it this way 16 & 1/2 stone and now I weigh just under 15 stone.... Losing 1 & 1/2 stones in a by following these simple recipes has amazed me and my family. There are loads of recipes for every taste some of which I definitely don't like lol, but on the whole the majority of them are right up my street with the chicken katsu curry being my favorite. Si & Dave thank you, this book is easy to follow and the recipes are easy to make

Not nearly as useful as the first book in the series
I love food and I love cooking and baking. In lockdown Britain, doing lots of cooking and baking bread, I have put back a quarter of the weight that I'd previously lost, following the Slimming World regime. I turned to the Hairy Dieters for inspiration, and bought this book to add to my collection. Though they follow a pure calorie counting approach*, like SW they avoid fat and recommend filling up on fresh vegetables, salads etc. Importantly they offer recipes that appeal to those who enjoy food and cooking. Dishes are straightforward, flavoursome, and hearty too. Very few 'fancy' ingredients, well by my reckoning anyway. They are big on common herbs and spices though, fresh and dried. They also offer pragmatic suggestions; I'd never have thought of using tinned clams in spaghetti vongole for example. I would suggest however that the first book in the series - The Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight - is a much richer source of appealing recipes. I found considerably less in this book, though it was worth having at the Kindle offer price. As an eBook it is reasonable. It would benefit from linked lists of recipes at the start of each chapter, but the GoTo function can be used to achieve the same effect. No index in this book. *Guidance is given in a Q&A with a nutrition expert in book 3. This said that in the UK the average man is recommended to have a maximum of about 2500 calories per day and the average woman about 2000 (though this varies by body size and activity levels). As a rough guide eating 500 calories less than you need per day for a week results in a weight loss of 500g [and vice versa]. In book 1 the bikers say that they followed advice to drop to 1300-1500 calories per day to target a weight loss of 1kg per week.

Lovely mixture of dishes
This book was a lot better than i thought it would be. A good mix of different dishes, the best thing for me was sticking to the book i was able to get my portions under control and not be tempted to eat extra.

I simply love the Hairy Dieters recipies. After reaching the critical twenty-stone mark, I had to apply dramatic changes to my lifestyle. As I love to cook and didn't know how to continue to cook without virtually killing myself, the Hairy Dieters cookbooks have been much inspiration. The food tastes great, most recipies are quickly prepared without too much hassle. Batch-cooking and freezing instructions help to reduce the overhead of cooking and eating with your health and the prospect of a receding waist line in mind. I still have some 3 to 4 stones to go but I am definitely looking forward to cooking some more of those lovely Hairy Dieters recipies.
