Q: which parts need painting? just the tank and battery covers? or the gold wheels etc. as well? are the black parts black and chrome parts chrome?

It should look Just like the picture except the seat needs to be painted, I think. I used Tamiya metallic burgundy for the tank and covers. its large enough that glossy looks correct for the scale, and I used a paste car wax to give it the correct shine. Mine was destroyed in a house fire so I can't refer to mine except in memory. The tires and handgrips are a type of soft rubber. The engine parts are matte silver plated and look like the real thing. The wheels and other parts are chrome plated but some should be detailed with Tamiya clear gold enamel to match the real bike. This is a typical Tamiya kit and everything about it is as good as it could be done. I can't remember if the Turn signal lenses were molded in orange or clear, but Tamiya clear orange enamel looks perfect if not. This bike is small, but like many really good kits, it looks correct for the model and looks fantastic if you take your time and do a good job. I also recommend using Tamiya thin clear liquid cement so there is no visible glue. You may want to use plastic filler for the seams on the tank. In case you wondered, I don't work for Tamiya but have found their products to be the best along with Revell of Germany.
