Good, but . . .
I ordered the D5X with the sub woofer. The sound is great given price and size of the speakers. I agree with other reviewers, the directions leave a lot to be desired. After one week the D5X stopped working. No sound would come from the unit whether the connection was Bluetooth or audio cable. There sound coming from the sub woofer. So I replaced the D5X with a new unit and the system worked fine except now the sub woofer will not remain linked when the system goes into standby. The D5X indicates there is a link but there no sound from the sub woofer, nor does the link indicator light up on the sub woofer. In order to set up the link again I have to go through a factory reset for each component. I contacted Creative customer service three days ago and still no response. The only way to contact them is email. They need to do better with customer service. Now I'm exchanging the sub woofer and we'll see. While the D5X is good, it is not worth keeping with out the sub woofer, the sound is just not that great without it. If the tech problem is solved I'd rate this item a 4 star. If I can't get it resolved it drops to a 1 star.11/8/11 - the replacement sub woofer arrived and the link between the units still fails. I will now try another replacement D5X. Still no word from Creative.About Amazon, they have been great with the returns. I was only two days before I received the replacement.11/10/11 - the third D5X arrived today and the system seems to be working well. I hope it lasts more than one week. As I said above, the best sound is achieved when the D5X is combined with the sub woofer. I'm raise my rating from 3 to 4 stars.I did have Creative reach out to me after my original post. So I did contact them as requested. It's been about 24 hours and still not response. For this price they need to do better with Customer Service. It appears as though they have no live customer service and that's a problem when there is a technical issue. With those circumstances the only viable option is replace/return the item. So buyer beware.Again, Amazon has been great about all the exchanges. Absolutely fantastic job.

A terrible product - I can't believe Amazon is promoting it
I purchased this product, and returned it a few days later. In short, the sound quality was poor, and the linked subwoofer did not produce any sound. Customer support was not available, so I returned it, did some additional research, and purchased the B&W Zeppelin Air - with which I am absolutely thrilled. Now to elaborate. I wanted convenience, so the bluetooth sounds appealing and Amazon's movies really promote this product. Turns out that the sound was terrible, and as my engineer father explained to me, bluetooth has very narrow bandwidth and cannot produce good sound even with the best of electronics. In addition, I initially purchased the D5 and the DSx - mistake. The D5 cannot be linked to the DSx subwoofer. So I returned the D5 and purchased a D5x. This one linked properly to the subwoofer, but the subwoofer failed to produce a sound, even with the link light turned on. I tried to get technical/customer support, but this company is apparently a virtual company, and support is only available by email. It took them 4 days to respond, and the response was unhelpful. Given the terrible sound, the poor connectivity and the lack of support, I returned this product. As a music lover, I actually felt a bit cleansed by the act of sending it back because the sound quality was so poor.I then went to a hi fi demo room and listened to the Wadia system, which has an internal DAC. Very nice sound! I went to Best Buy and listened to the top-of-the-line Bose Soundock 10, and it was weak. Terrible, in fact. And now that I know more about bluetooth limitations, the optional Bluetooth attachment for the Bose (for an additional $100) seems like the company has lost its mind. I also listened to the Sonos bluetooth system, which just reinforced the poor quality of bluetooth sound systems. Then I listened to the B&W ZeppelinAir. Wow! Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air Wireless AirPlay Speaker Dock I had my father and son with me, and both of them are very musical. The Zeppelin blew all of us away. So I just bought it, brought it home, set up the AirPlay (with some trepidation, given what I read on the net), and played some music through it. Wow again! I needed to redo the AirPlay setup once, but it's been great since then. It connects to my computer iTunes via wi fi, and to my iPod and iPhone directly via the dock as well as via wi fi. The remote controls the basic functions. The trial subscription to the Society of Sound is a nice bonus. So in conclusion, the Creative system is just a bad system. I actually sent Amazon a note regarding their advertisement of this system. At a cost of >$400 (with the subwoofer), it's both expensive and poorly performing - a bad combination. The Bose Soundock is better. The ZeppelinAir is so much better than both of them that it's not even close. It's actually as good as the Wadia component system, thanks to the Zeppelin's internal DAC. Forget the Creative system. If you want something cheap and small then buy one of the many small docks, e.g. Altec, iHome, etc. If you want a super hi fi component system for thousands of $$$, then the Peachtree (iNova or iDecco) are probably for you. But if you want the combination of great sound in a small footprint and the convenience of Apple AirPlay, then the ZeppelinAir is for you.

Stick with the Creative ZiiSound D3x
After a long and hard search for a bluetooth speaker system for my small apartment, I purchased both this Creative ZiiSound D5x and the less expensive Creative ZiiSound D3x Modular Wireless Speaker System (51MF8120AA002) .Beyond aesthetics (D5x has touch-sensitive buttons and a volume indicator), the units are quite similar. Both units are smaller than I had anticipated though sound is strong. I was most concerned about sound quality and was surprised that I like the sound from the D3x more. While the D5x has a deeper sound with more bass, its mid- and top-range sound is not as crisp or energetic as the D3x. I've decided to stick with the D3x.

Use it for the center channel.
I order this one when it was already drop price, $149 with Subwoofer. I think it is a cool deal, then I build my sound system by my way. I buy the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 (Creative too), so I use ZiiSound D5x + Zii Subwoofer as the center channel, and the Creative T40 II as the front channel, after all I order the Creative T20 II for the rear channel, and believe me, the surround sound is wonderful. I am so happy with my system now, and I also can use my computer to control the equalizer and sound effect. Nothing for complain. I have a friend and he use Bose Acoustimass 6, I already hear his 5.1 system and I think I prefer my system to.If you buy this speaker, make sure buy it with subwoofer too, by my experience, it have the crystal sound but it is lacking in bass.
