Highly recommended for science geeks
Friends, those of you who don’t have a great grasp of science, be warned. This book will be extremely boring for the layman who doesn’t have a grasp of science, with its revolutionary (and peculiar) scientific concepts (26-dimensional space, branes, M-theory and so on)This book is basically based on a theory aiming to become the Theory of Everything, superstring theory, and it does well to basically give an idea of what the theory is. But.....to say the least, it isn’t interesting!Theories of Everything are meant to make things simple- but this theory is anything but. By describing atoms as small strings, it just seems like an excuse that they can’t be found easily, even with the strongest microscopes..Brian Greene does brilliantly well to make the concepts of the theory very simple with his lucid and wonderful writing. Making concepts like 26-dimensional space is never an easy task. Therefore, those with a basic grasp of science can find it somewhat enjoyable.I highly recommend this book to those who want to know about this theory(you won’t find many better ones around!), and to find it enjoyable, a good understanding of science is recommended.

Great, heavy read if you're not a nerd like that
What a great book, read like 30 pages then lost it in me grandmama's mansion, miss it everyday

Great
Exquisitely written and explains the basics of string theory. Good packaging and the book got quality, and I'm in love with this elegant subtle cover page it got.

A must read
It is a very interesting book, this opens the secret to the very smallest to the very big. This book explains time dilation and other relative stuff in a very interesting way, I've read Hawking's brief history of time and it's an awesome book, but The elegant universe proves to be better. It has explained general relatively and special relativity in a fun manner, Greene threatens to do what Hawkins has done for black holes. Now, superstring theory will merge relativity and quantum mechanics, which has never been done before and I bet you'll come out a better person than you were previously

Great Book!!
A very nice book for string theory and other complex branches of quantum mechanics. This book delivers the knowledge in a very elaborate way easy to understand and it also forces the reader to apply his/her mind.

String theory is the new game in town.
If you're or have been a science enthusiast, The read will be totally worth the time of yours. The author puts life in those mathematical equations we studied in school by his beautiful analogies. The book describes many mind boggling facts and gives the description of journey of string theory in the 20th century. The way String theory answers most of the questions- that couldn't be answered simply by Quantum theory or general relativity- is remarkable. On reading these accounts i gained insight of how elegantly our universe is designed.Even if you've no prior knowledge of quantum theory and relativity, this shouldn't stop you from reading because the language is simple and lucid. However because the book was published in 2000-ish, recent developments in string theory and large hadron collider are not described.
