Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
Have you ever gotten a present when it wasn't your birthday or Christmas or any other special occasion? My grandson wanted a kayak, but Dad said the one he wanted to get was a little expensive, but extremely safe; so, we decided to purchase it for him.We had it delivered to his house under his name. When he got home from school, his Dad said he had a package ( a 13 foot, six inch package). The next thing we knew, we received an email with a picture of Drew sitting in the garage in the Pelican Premium Tangerine Red kayak. There is a large lake behind their subdivision and Drew and his family go their often. Drew (seven) will share with his twelve year old sister, but Dad (the ever careful firefighter) and Mom the school nurse seem to enjoy it just as much as the kids. Thanks for a safe pass time for the entire family.

This is a great kayak accept for one huge flaw in that the front does not shed water in even the slightest swell or chop. It's really a shame that the designers did not have a slightly higher and more rounded bow top and perhaps bring the cockpit back a few more inches. The boat is suitable for very small lakes or flat streams. If they offered a spray skirt this might solve the problem but no manufacturer makes one at this time. Other than that it is light, stable, reasonably fast, and has a lot of great little features like front and rear bottle holders, two dry storage compartments and paddle holder straps.

o.k.product, needs a cover
How do you sell a kayak and not offer anyway to cover it? Hey Pelican staff....don't you think your customers might want a cover for their kayak? we are constantly having to drain it after rain and cleaning crap out of it. What a mess.

AWESOME KAYAK!
First off I have to say my husband and I are two very different sizes. He is about 5'10" 220lbs and I am barely 5' 115lbs. We first kayaked in California on an ocean sit on kayak and loved it! We had no idea there were so many different kinds and quickly found out how confusing it can be and disappointing when you have one that won't track or is super tippy. We tried many different ones: borrowed some, bought and returned some and were about to give up when we found this one which had all the components we wanted. It has a sharp pointed front to cut the waves well, a flat bottom with channels, and an awesome rear "rudder" for amazing tracking. It is a sit in but the openings are so wide and spacious it feels as if you are almost on a sit on except a bit more protected and you have storage. He sits in the rear and me up front for better tracking and weight distribution. We live on the great lakes so there are waves, currents and we even had white caps last night and never felt unstable or nervous about tipping. This thing is super fast in rivers- we left our friends so far behind we had to stop and wait frequently....If you are looking for a very stable super fast kayak that tracks really, really well, this is it! Keep in mind in the open water it can be dangerous- we are both very strong and super fit, but this feels like it would be extremely difficult to flip even if we tried. We were in 2 ft white cap swells and it definitely felt like we were on a ride,( as long as that doesn't make you nervous) but if you enjoy that it was a blast! We got this at an awesome price bc it was the end of the season sale, but I would have paid full price had I known how much we were going to love it earlier in the season and would have had more time to use it.
