Easy Steps to Chinese: Textbook v. 1 + CD Audio

Easy Steps to Chinese
This was the chosen text for an evening class. I had used a similar one before, but this one concentrates more on speech, ie learning to make up sentences rather than just repeat what's given to you. That is great, but as my memory is visual and I prefer to memorise by writing things out, I found it easier to learn the characters from the book that concentrated on written language. It is written for children, so it should be easy enough for adults, but Chinese is never easy! Vocabulary is perhaps more school-orientated. You will learn brother/sister, mum/dad, rather than husband/wife, son/daughter. It's unfortunate that whoever put it into English didn't do this as fluently as they might have. It's ok, though. Expensive, and only the first of a series, but thankfully I managed to get mine second-hand. Includes cd.

I like it a lot
It is a little to easy for me but all exercises are well organized, not too hard, not too easy. No one tried too hard if you know what I mean. You can learn writing, check your grammar and vocabulary. Also it will help you with your radicals!

Ten out of Ten..
I bought this (and the exercise book) for my 11 year old son's first foray into learning Chinese and was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. It's easy to use and makes the language easy to learn!
