Quality Plastic Coating, Easy To use, Very Affordable
This lives up to the Watco reputation from their stains. It can be poured on a flat piece, and spread with a cloth. Or hold a small piece of cloth tight over the spout, then tip the container upside down and back, to put some on the cloth. No brush needed. Dries quickly. I had no problems with runs when coating a 6" round piece of wood 4' long. The result is a clear plastic coating which can take some abuse.Update: I just love this stuff. My latest project was to convert some 50w LED security lights into portable work lights on stands. I connected each base of 4x4 scraps to a security light using a pillar made from scrapped old closet rods. After putting things together, I realized the abused old closet rods were delivering splinters. 1 coat of this poly wiped on, and the junk closet rods looked like new. It soaked in deeply, which seemed to rehydrate the wood, pulling in the splinters. The poly also worked like a glue to hold the splinters tight to the wood, plus it covered the splinter tips, so they couldn't break human skin. I added a 2nd coat of poly w/o sanding, which completely covered the splinter tips, while also delivering a slightly rough surface (great for grabbing and moving the lights). I'd expected a delicate coating (like with spar varnish), but this poly soaked in to create a tough coating which isn't just connected to itself on the surface. I'm a big fan of Watch Danish Oil for staining wood, and this poly had a similar effect. The wood darkened at least a shade, with all the damaged areas suddenly blending in beautifully. If I ever again buy an old home with worn out closet rods, they're getting a coat of this poly before deciding whether to replace them. I've now used over half of this quart of wipe-on poly, and have yet to be disappointed. It's super easy to apply, hides flaws, looks gorgeous. and is a tough coating which will last.

Effortless brilliance for wood finishes
As a DIY enthusiast and a fan of woodworking projects, I recently tried the Watco Wipe-On Poly to finish a custom bookshelf. Here's my detailed review of its performance, ease of use, and overall effectiveness.**Ease of Application:** The standout feature of Watco Wipe-On Poly is its ease of application. Unlike traditional polyurethane finishes that require a brush, this wipe-on formula can be applied with a cloth, making the process much smoother and quicker. It's particularly useful for projects with intricate designs or hard-to-reach areas.**Finish Quality:** Once applied, the poly dries to a clear, smooth finish that enhances the wood's natural beauty. It doesn’t yellow over time, preserving the integrity of the wood's color. The sheen is just right – not too glossy, but with a subtle luster that brings out the best in the wood.**Drying Time:** The drying time is reasonable. It’s not the fastest-drying product on the market, but it dries evenly and allows for recoating within a few hours. This manageable drying time reduces the chances of dust settling on the finish, a common problem with slower-drying products.**Durability:** Once cured, the Watco Wipe-On Poly provides a durable protective layer. It holds up well against scratches and everyday wear and tear. However, for heavy-use surfaces, you might need multiple coats for extra protection.**Odor and Cleanup:** The product has a noticeable odor, so it’s best used in a well-ventilated area. Cleanup is straightforward, as it can be easily wiped off tools and surfaces with mineral spirits.**Quantity and Coverage:** A little goes a long way with this product. The coverage is quite impressive, and it’s easy to control the amount used, reducing waste.**Price Point:** The Watco Wipe-On Poly is reasonably priced, especially considering the ease of use and the quality of finish it provides.**Limitations:** If you prefer a very high-gloss finish, this product might be too subtle for your taste. Also, for projects requiring a super-fast turnaround, the drying time could be a bit of a hindrance.**Conclusion:** In summary, Watco Wipe-On Poly is an excellent choice for both amateur woodworkers and professionals looking for an easy-to-apply, durable finish for their projects. Its ease of application, beautiful finish, and overall durability make it a product well worth considering for your next woodworking project.
