It works but not for my use case...
I am not going to write a bad review, because the item does not work for my specific (probably odd) use case. I see a lot of that in reviews and it annoys me.My use case was to connect a network streamer to a desktop DAC's USB input not to connect to a PC/phone/tablet/whatever. When I connected the streamer to this and connected to the DAC there was no sound out of the system at all. I tested it by connecting it to my computer and it worked as advertised. The laptop saw the input signal and I was able to record that to a file with no problem. So that means the device works for what it was designed.I found an email address in the Cublix website and sent an email asking if it would work for what I wanted. They replied withing 24 hrs saying that it wouldn't since it is designed to work with a PC/device that has full USB functionality.

Allows TOSLink to Input to a USB-C Port
I often have need to send a signal to my Mac mini, or iPad Pro, both only accept USB for input. One of my sources is my Emotiva Surround Sound Processor, that only outputs digital signals via S/PDIF — Coax or TOSLink / Optical. When I first saw this device, I wasn’t sure if it would go from TOSLink to USB, or USB to TOSLink, when I got it I hooked it up to my processor and iPad, and it worked first time. This allows me to analyze the signals running through my system, and if wanted display on my TV.In the photo you can see a Lissajous display from a stereo music signal, this one shows the track has good stereo separation. The signal goes out of the processor via TOSLink, into the Cubilux adapter, and then into the USB-C port on my iPad Pro. On the iPad the AudioTools app is used to analyze the signal and create the display (they call it X+Y), but it’s a general purpose oscilloscope that can display sweeps as well. In this case I’m using the TV mirroring function to also put the display on my 85” Sony TV. It all works great, although mirroring has some latency (not caused by the adapter).I have not tested going from USB-C to TOSLink, but will update this review when I do.

Captures PCM optical audio as advertised.
Captures optical audio as advertised. Recognized immediately by MacOS as an audio source. Used in my application with audio mixing software. A longer USB pigtail would be handy along with a USB power & hub port in an equally compact housing. Great to see other optical audio capture&output options from the same vendor.

Great S/P DIF input for your PC, create a Dante Transmitter using Via!
No fuss S/P DIF input (recording only). Worked out of the box for wiring in my Roland MC-909 into Dante as a transmitter using Via. Now I can route the raw digital signal through analog simulations to put a warmer twist on the classic turn of the century charm of the MC-909. Best part is it costs 1/8th the price of the hardware Dante S/P DIF IO with none of the limitations.

Works great, using it with iPhone
Works really well, I’m not experiencing any issues with quality or noise or anything. The only thing I thought was strange was that it lowers the volume by about 3 db, but support told me that was normal, and it’s by design built into the firmware. My only other concern was that it’s limited to 16-bit, however they actually do make a receiver that supports 24-bit, but it doesn’t work well on mobile devices, sadly. It seems there is some issue with mobile devices and 24-bit audio.I am using their SPDIF transmitter device as well to send the processed and mastered audio from a MacBook Pro to my iPhone.

No instructions! Not plug & play. Must need special app/software to work, if it works at all.
This device does not work with software that comes with Windows. I'm running Windows 10. Windows recognizes it, but Windows does not come with software for it to work. There are no instructions, and I could not find anything on the internet that explained what software is needed to make it work.I purchased it to transfer old MiniDisc recordings using the optical out on my player to my computer. The optical out on my MiniDisc player works fine, so that is not the problem. This would be the same problem if you were planning to transfer CD's optically to your computer.I could not rate "sound quality" or "volume control" since I couldn't get it to work. But "value for money" is 1 star only because there is no Zero star option.

Cubilux Spdif to USB C Receiver UCI-B2
I like this product and the price, so that it functions properly and the line stereo receives, not transmit, from any audio Spdif device to record using the USB receiver.
